Activities of the EU for the support of polylingualism

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá tématem mnohojazyčnosti v rámci Evropské unie, tedy zejména snahami, které EU vynakládá na její podporu. Práce je členěna do čtyř hlavních částí. částí. První představuje téma mnohojazyčnosti obecně a vysvětluje tento pojem v kontextu politiky EU. Druhá část nabízí pohled na stávající situaci v oblasti jazykové úrovně v zemích EU. Třetí část má za cíl představit aktivity a nástroje EU v oblasti studia jazyků, zaměřené na tři klíčové oblasti a to je výuka jazyků v raném věku, celoživotní vzdělávání a podpora vzdělávání učitelů. Poslední část je věnována aktivitám na podporu mnohojazyčnosti v jiných nestudijních oblastech společnosti. Jedná se zejména o vztah jazyka a kultury, vlivu informačních technologií na rozvoj znalosti a užívání jazyků, ale i aktivity EU v překladu a tlumočení.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the topic of polylingualism in the context of the European Union, expecially the efforts of the European Union laboured for subvention of polylingualism. The thesis is divided into four main parts. The first part names the topic of polylingualism generally and in the context of the politics of the European Union. The second part offers the sight of existing situation in the area of the language level in the countries of European Union. The goal of the third part is to present activities and tools of the European Union in the field of language studies which has three key areas – language teaching in the early- maturing age, lifelong learning and the subvention of teachers training. The last part follows the activities in support of the subvention of polylingualism in other non-educatinal areas of society. It is especially about the relation between a language and a culture, about the infuence of the information technologies over the development of language knowledge and using, but also the activities of the European Union in translation and interpretation.
