The public is revolting: an overview of cases of petitions and protests in contemporary foresty in the Czech Republic.

Abstract:

Lesnictví v České republice čelí v posledních letech rostoucímu zájmu veřejnosti. Množí se petice a protesty, které kritizují stávající lesnickou politiku a požadují změny. Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na analýzu těchto petic a protestů. Cílem práce je zmapovat nejvýznamnější případy, analyzovat jejich cíle, argumenty a dopady. Dále se práce zabývá důvody, které vedou k vznikům petic a protestů v oblasti lesnictví, a hodnotí jejich vliv na vývoj lesnické politiky v České republice. Práce je založena na analýze primárních a sekundárních zdrojů. Primární zdroje jsou petice, protestní prohlášení a další materiály dostupné online. Sekundárními zdroji jsou odborné články a zprávy o problematice lesnictví v České republice. K analýze dat byla použita kvalitativní metoda s využitím techniky kategorizace. Práce shrnuje nejvýznamnější případy, jako jsou kampaně, které organizují protesty proti těžbě dřeva starých stromů a petice za trvale udržitelné lesnictví. Analyzuje cíle kampaní, petic a výzev, argumentaci a dopady. Dále se zabývají důvody, které vedou k jejich vzniku, mezi které patří nespokojenost s těžebními postupy, obavy o biodiverzitu a vnímání lesů jako důležitého prvku životního prostředí. Práce hodnotí vliv kampaní, výzev a petic na vývoj lesnické politiky v České republice. I když se nepodařilo dosáhnout všech požadavků, vedly k většímu zapojení veřejnosti do debat o lesnictví a k dílčím změnám.

Abstract:

Forestry in the Czech Republic has faced growing public scrutiny in recent years. Petitions and protests have proliferated, criticizing current forestry policies and demanding changes. This bachelor´s thesis focuses on analyzing these petitions and protest. The aim of the thesis is to map the most significant cases, analyze their goals, arguments, and impacts. Futhermore, the thesis explore the reasons behind the emergence of petitions and protests in the field od forestry and evaluates their influence on the development of forestry policy in the Czech Republic. The thesis is based on the analysis of primary and secondary sources. Primary sources include petitions, protest declarations, and other materials available online. Secondary sources are academic articles and reports on forestry issues in the Czech Republic. A qualitative method using categorization techniques was employed for data analysis. The thesis summarizes the most significant cases, such as campaigns organizing protest against the logging of old trees and petitions for sustainable forestry. It analyzes the goals, arguments , and impact of these campaigns, petitions and calls to actions. It also explores the reason behind their emergence, which include dissatisfaction with logging practices, concerns about biodiverzity, and the perception of forests as an important environmental element. The thesis evaluates the impact of campaigns, calls to actions, and petitions on the development of foretsry policy in the Czech Republic. While not all demands have been met, they have led to greater public engagement in forestry debates and incremental changes.
