Methods of control and limitation of access to ICT in libraries

Abstract:

Magisterská práce ,,Metody kontroly a omezení přístupu k ICT v knihovnách“ představuje souhrn jednotlivých metod, kterými mohou knihovny svoje počítače zabezpečit tak, aby k nim mohl přistupovat jakýkoliv uživatel, aniž by ohrozil následujícího uživatele, uživatele připojeného ve stejné síti nebo sám sebe (svá data či osobu). Metody jsou popsány systematicky od prvotního přístupu uživatele až po práci s jednotlivými částmi systému, jako jsou například elektronické informační zdroje nebo internet jako takový. Praktickou část tvoří analýza výsledků strukturovaného dotazníku, zabývajícího se používaností jednotlivých metod a povědomí o tom, zda tyto metody uživatele omezují či nikoliv. Výzkum byl realizován v rámci akademických, krajských a regionálních knihoven. Výsledkem zkoumání je fakt, že knihovny využívají především základních metod kontroly a omezení přístupu, které považují za minimálně omezující oproti míře zabezpečení.

Abstract:

The thesis ‘Methods of control and limitation of access to ICT in libraries’ introduces a number of methods that can be used by libraries to secure their computers. These methods allow any user to access a computer in the library without putting himself, a following user or another user accessing the same network simultaneously in a risk. Here the methods are described methodically from a user’s first access to a computer to handling individual parts of the system as is electronic information sources and the internet itself, for instance. The practical part of the thesis consists of analysis of a structural survey. This survey investigates a use of the methods among the computer users and their awareness of in what extend they limit them. It was targeted at the users of academic, county and regional libraries. The outcome of the survey points out that libraries are using primarily basic methods of control and limitation of access which they consider least limiting in comparison to the level of security.
