Factors influencing the reconciliation of work and family life of parents of person with mental retardation

Abstract:

Práce pojednává o faktorech ovlivňujících sladění rodinného a pracovního života rodičů osob s mentální retardací, resp. o tom, co ovlivnilo jejich rozhodnutí mezi plnou péčí o dítě a placenou prací. V teoretické části jsou představeny hlavní pojmy, tedy mentální retardace, mikro a makro-sociální faktory, koncept Work-life balance a veřejná politika a její role v životě rodin osob s mentální retardací. Výzkum je založen na kvalitativní strategii. Byl realizován formou polostrukturovaných rozhovorů s rodiči osob s mentální retardací. Výsledkem práce je zjištění, že rodiče při rozhodování nejvíce ovlivnila jejich vlastní potřeba péče o děti. Dále také zdravotní stav dítěte, jeho schopnosti a míra samostatnosti. Rodiče za významnou považovali seberealizaci a sociální začlenění. Byli ovlivněni také institucionálními podmínkami a zejména pak sociálními dávkami a příspěvky. V závěru diplomové práce je zodpovězena hlavní výzkumná otázka a také uvedena doporučení pro další praxi.

Abstract:

This thesis deals about the factors affecting the reconciliation of family and working life of parents of persons with mental retardation, respectively about factors which influenced their decision between the full child care and paid job. The theoretical part of thesis will introduce a definition of mental retardation and its specifics demands on parents of persons with mental retardation. Furthermore micro and macro-social factors, the concept of Work-life balance and public policy and its role in the lives of the families of persons with mental retardation. The research is based on qualitative strategy. It was conducted by dorm of semi-structured interviews with parents of persons with mental retardation. The main finding of the thesis is that parents in deciding the most influenced their own need for childcare. Furthermore, the health status of the child´s abilities and level of independence. Self-fulfilment and social inclusion were important for parents too. They were also influenced by the institutional context and especially by social contributions and benefits. The conclusion sums up the results of the research and includes the answer on the main research question with suggestion for the further practice.
