Abstract:

Umělecká skupina Pode Bal, založená v roce 1998 je často řazena mezi tzv. politicky angažovaná umělecká uskupení a to především proto, že kromě kritiky forem vizuální komunikace se ve své tvorbě zaměřuje na současná politická a sociální témata. Byla jednou z prvních uměleckých skupin, které na konci 90. let zpolitizovaly výtvarné umění v České republice. O směřování její umělecké činnosti svědčí i podtitul skupiny – More than only Art, tedy jakési překračování hranic umění, kdy autoři zasahují i do jiných sfér lidské působnosti a poukazují na palčivé problémy současné společnosti. Vzhledem k tomu, že skupina Pode Bal je v našem kulturním kontextu jedním z nejprovokativnějších uměleckých počinů a téměř každá její aktivita rozpoutala množství diskusí jak v řadách odborníků, tak i mezi laickou veřejností, věnuji se ve své bakalářské prácí činností této skupiny, jejími motivy a koncepcí s přesahy do souvislostí historických i zcela současných, jakými jsou například problémy kritiky a cenzury ve výtvarném umění.

Abstract:

The art group Pode Bal, established in 1998, is often linked with the so called politically engaged art; especially for the major focus of the group, besides a critique of the different forms of visual communication, are contemporary political and social themes. Pode Bal was one of the first art groups which politicized visual arts in the Czech Republic in the end of 90s. The group´s aim is also verbalized in its subtitle – More than only Art, which signifies continuous transcendence of the boundaries of artistic creation, reaching out to other spheres of human activity and pointing out disturbing problems of contemporary society. Given that the art group Pode Bal is, in our cultural context, one of the most provocative art initiatives and almost all of its activities have been resulting in a number of discussions, both within art specialists and among the lay public, I devote my bachelor thesis to the inquiry into the group´s actions, motifs and concepts. These will be presented within both historical and contemporary contexts and related questions, such as the question of art criticism or censorship.
