Amish in modern society

Abstract:

Tato práce je zaměřena na uvedení do celkové problematiky vztahu komunity amišů a moderní společnosti. Popisuje základní znaky každodenního života společenství a vysvětluje jejich význam. Primárně se snaží ukázat, které oblasti tradičního života jsou ovlivňovány tlakem moderního světa a představit kulturní a sociální faktory, které to ovlivňují.Téma vychází z předpokladu, že tradiční společenství s náboženským základem uprostřed moderní, technologicky a materiálně založené společnosti, je zcela zákonitě nějakému vlivu vystaveno. S ohledem na vysokou míru kulturního kontrastu je toto pole poměrně široké.V úvodu je navržena typologie amišů, vycházející ze soudobých poznatků sociálních věd a religionistiky. Výstupní stanovisko je takové, že v sociálním rozměru se jedná o společenství (Gemeinschaft). Religionistika chápe amiše jako křesťanskou sektu. Prostřednictvím této typologie je k amišům dále takto přistupováno. Bylo zjištěno, že v interakci s moderním světem dochází k různým změnám ve všech sférách života amišů. Nejmenší dopad byl zaznamenán v ceremoniální oblasti, kterou amišové považují za nedotknutelnou a její ochrana je pro ně prioritou. Nicméně zde můžeme vlivy moderní společnosti vysledovat (např. v jazykových novotvarech). Pronikání moderních technologií je zřetelnější v soukromém životě amišů, jak zjišťujeme například při pohledu do jejich domácností. Nejvýraznější oblastí „modernizace“ je práce. V tomto ohledu jsou amišové nejliberálnější. Převážně však ke změnám dochází s jejich vědomím, po pečlivém vyhodnocení a dlouhodobém sledování konkrétního fenoménu.Hlavními prostředky pro vznik této práce jsou studie autorů Johna Hostetlera a Donalda Kraybilla. Hostetler dělí amiše ve vztahu k moderní společnosti, a jejich resistenci k ní, do dvou diskursů, kdežto Kraybill pracuje s generálním vzorcem amiše. Vzájemné doplnění obou názorů je základním nástrojem tohoto tématu.

Abstract:

The work is focused on the introduction to overall issues related to Amish community and the modern society. Describes the basic features of the everyday life of the community and explains their significance. Primarily it tries to show whitch part of traditional life is influenced by pressure from the modern world and introduce social and cultural factors that affect it. Theme is based on the assumption that the traditional community center with a religious basis for a modern, technologically and materially based society, is completely bound to any effect of exposure. Given the high degree of cultural contrasts, this field is quite wide. In the introduction there is proposed typology of Amish, based on current knowledge of social sciences and religious studies. The output position is such that in the social dimension this is a community (Gemeinschaft). Religions sciences understand Amis as a Christian sect. Through this typology is followed acces to the Amish. It was found that because of the interaction with the modern world there are various changes in all spheres of Amish life. The smallest impact was seen in the ceremonial area, which Amish considered inviolable and its protection is a priority for them. However, we can trace the influences of modern society (eg language neoplasms). Penetration of modern technology is evident in the private lives of Amish, as we can see, for example, when looked in their homes. Work is the most striking area of "modernization". In this aspect Amish are the most liberal. Mostly, they are changing their mind after careful evaluation and long-term monitoring of a particular phenomenon. The main resources for the development of this work are the studies written by John Hostetler and Donald Kraybill. Hostetler divided Amish in relation to modern society and their resistance to it in the two discourses, while the Kraybill is working with the general pattern of Amish. Coherence of the two views is an essential tool for this topic.
