Cirkus La Putyka

The visual identity of existing subject

Abstract:

Pro moji diplomovu práci jsem si vybrala vizuální styl cirkusu La Putyka. Nejedná se o klasický cirkus, kde je hlavní součástí drezura zvířat a akrobatické prvky. Jde o pojem "nového cirkusu", ve kterém se mění celkový koncept pojetí cirkusu. Cirkus La Putyka se snaží překračovat hranice mezi akrobacií, moderním tancem, loutkovým divadlem, koncertem a sportem. Právě tento moment, toto překračování hranic, je pro mě výzvou. To, že se nejedná o klasické pojetí cirkusu s klasickými motivy a principy, které se odrážejí i na celkové vizualitě, je důvod, proč jsem si toto téma pro svou diplomovou práci vybrala. Než jsem se dala do samotného navrhování vlastní práce, předcházelo mu podrobné studování tématu. Rešerši jsem zaměřila nejen na cirkusy klasické (světové i české, historické i současné), ale i na téma nového cirkusu (světové cirkusy i současná grafika La Putyky) a také na divadelní a filmovou prezentaci. Vše zaměřené především na plakát, který je podle mě nejdůležitější součástí korporátního stylu cirkusu. Vysledovala jsem charakteristické prvky a principy pro každé z těchto témat a snažila se k tomu zaujmout vlastní postoj a uchopit vše z jiné strany. Vizuální styl jsem založila na typografii. Monumentální typografie, kombinování písem a odvážné kompozice na plakátech a minimalistická typografie na ostatních tiskovinách. Vše je spojeno výrazným prvkem a sice sprejem. Největší důraz je kladen na plakáty, které jsou a vždy byly nejsilnějším propagačním prvkem cirkusu. Dále jsem vytvořila vstupenky, vstupní pásky, logomanuál, publikaci a vizitky. Cílem práce je propojit vizualitu divadelních a cirkusových plakátů a prolomit zaběhlé konvence českých cirkusových plakátů, které jsou na rozdíl od některých světových na velmi nízké úrovni (viz. obrázková příloha). Pokusit se změnit vizuální charakter výlepových ploch, kde jsou plakáty na divadelní představení na denním pořádku.

Abstract:

For my diploma work, I have chosen a visual style of a circus called La Putyka. It is not a classicall circus, where the main attraction are animals and acrobatic stunts. It is a notion of a "new circus", where the concept of circus as a whole is changing. La Putyka is trying to cross the lines between acrobatics, modern dancing, puppet theatre, concerts and sport. This "crossing the lines" moment in particular is a challenge for me. The fact, that it is not a classic conception of a circus with classic themes and principles, which are reflecting on the overall visuality, is the reason I have chosen this topic for my diploma work. Before I began designing my own work I had to do a detailed research on this matter. It was focused not only on classic circus (worldwide, czech, historical and current) but on a topic of modern circus (circuses around the world and current graphics of La Putyka) and on film and theatrical presentation. All focused mainly on posters, which are in my opinion the most important part of the corporate style of circus. I traced the most characteristic elements and principles for each of these topics and on the other hand tried to have my own take on them and get to know them from all perspectives. I based my visual style on typography. Monumental typography, combining of fonts and bold compositions on posters and minimalistic on other printed materials. All is connected with a significant element spraying. The biggest emphasis is on posters, which are, and always were, the strongest element in propagation of circus. Then I created tickets, admission tapes, logomanual, publication and business cards. The aim of my work was to connect the visuality of theatre and circus posters and to break the convention of Czech circus posters, which are very low standard compered to the ones around the world. To try to change the visual quality of notice boards, where the posters for a play are very common.
