Cohesion as A Multidimensional (Not Only) Sociological Concept

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se věnuje rozboru konceptu koheze v sociologii a jiných relevantních prostředích, problémům těchto koncepcí, analýze jejich metodologického zázemí, a nástinu a exekuce možných řešení, jež z nalezených problémů vyplývají. Vychází přitom z prací sociologů, ale i politických institucí, například Evropské unie, jež koncept v posledních dekádách zohledňují. Kvůli jejich nedostatečnostem, mezi které patří především mnohoznačnost a neúplnost, na které poukazují kritiky obou zúčastněných stran, však tyto konceptualizace koheze záhy opouští, aby ustavila nový konceptuální rámec soudržnosti, který tento fenomén umožní lépe a komplexněji uchopit. Vedle kritiky současného stavu tak nabízí také smysluplné řešení, jež umožní zodpovědět otázky, co pod konceptem koheze rozumíme a jakými způsoby můžeme kohezi chápat. Tím tato práce navazuje na kritiky metodologie teoretické sociologie, kteří poukazují na relativitu sociálních fenoménů a jejich podmíněnost kontextem, které však skrze neustavení základních požadavků na konstrukci konceptů, umožňují jednotlivým autorům popsat tento, ale i jiné koncepty, prakticky nekonečnými cestami. Tím se koncept koheze i další koncepty, užívané v teoretické sociologii, dostávají na scestí a ztrácejí kvůli své mnohotvárnosti schopnost dostatečně popsat konkrétní sociální jevy. Je proto na místě zabývat se jejich vyjasňováním a metodologií.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis dedicates itself to the analysis of the concept of (social) cohesion in sociology and other relevant environments, problems of these conceptions, analysis of their methodological base, and both identifying and execution of possible solutions. It draws from the work of sociologists, but also from the work of political institutions, for example European Union, who tackle the concept in the last decades. Because of their imperfections in construction such as insufficiency and ambiguity, it however abandons these conceptualizations and establishes new conceptual framework of the cohesion, which enables better and wider understanding. It thereby offers meaningful solutions and not only critics of the current state of affairs. By this process, this thesis follows the tradition of methodological sociology critics, who are underlying the relativity and conditionality of social phenomena. Those critics then emphasize the nonexistence of minimal theoretical standards in concept building process, which enables individual authors to define concepts in virtually indefinite ways. By this deficit, concept of cohesion and other concepts in theoretical sociology as well, mislead from their original ways and have no longer the potential of defining social phenomena. It is then appropriate to address both clarification and methodology of these concepts.
