DevOps approach under the conditions of software development outsourcing

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje především na přístup DevOps v podmínkách outsourcingu vývoje softwaru. Práce je rozdělena na tři části. V teoretické části je nejprve vysvětlen koncept DevOps, jenž spojuje agilní způsob vývoje software, přístupy Continuous Integration a Continuous Delivery, automatizaci a mnoho dalších osvědčených postupů. Popsány jsou důvody pro jeho zavedení, principy a kultura. Agilní způsob vývoje software je vysvětlen na nejpoužívanějších agilních metodikách Scrum a Kanban. Poté je charakterizován outsourcing IS/ICT a jeho formy, z nichž je dále analyzován outsourcing vývoje softwaru společně s procesem výběrového řízení a smluvními vztahy. Druhá část práce je věnována sloučení obou konceptů na základě analýzy, syntézy a zkušeností autora z oblasti IT provozu. Za prvé byly navrženy zásady, které mají přispět k efektivnímu spolupráci obou partnerů a k neustálému zlepšování v oblastech: spolupráce, kvality produktů (služeb), procesů a organizace, a za druhé bylo navrženo několik vhodných modelů týmové organizační struktury pro sloučení DevOps a outsourcingu vývoje softwaru. Třetí část práce se věnuje ověření zásad na konkrétním softwarovém projektu, v rámci kterého je vývoj aplikace realizován externím dodavatelem. Při zpracování diplomové práce byly využity metody: vědecký popis, explanace, analýza, syntéza, pozorování a dotazování. Hlavními přínosy práce je návrh souboru zásad pro přístup DevOps v podmínkách outsourcingu vývoje softwaru, jejich charakteristiky, hodnocení, měření a návrh nejvhodnějších modelů týmových organizačních struktur, které jsou využitelné v praxi.

Abstract:

The thesis focuses mainly on the DevOps approach under the conditions of software development outsourcing. The thesis is divided into three parts. The theoretical part first explains the concept of DevOps, which combines agile software development, Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery, automation and many other best practices. The reasons for its implementation, principles and culture have all been described. Agile software development is explained on the most widely used agile methodologies, Scrum and Kanban. Then IS / ICT outsourcing and its forms are characterized, from which the software development outsourcing is analyzed together with the selection process and contractual relations. The second part is devoted to the merging of both concepts based on the analysis, synthesis and experience of the author in the field of IT operations. Firstly, policies have been devised to contribute to the effective cooperation of both partners and to continually improve in the areas of: collaboration, product quality (services), processes and organization; and secondly, several suitable team organizational structure models have been proposed to consolidate DevOps and software development outsourcing. The third part of the thesis deals with the verification of principles on a particular software project, in which the application development is realized by an external supplier. The thesis has been completed using the following methods: scientific description, explanation, analysis, synthesis, observation and questioning. The main benefits of the thesis are the design of a set of principles for DevOps access in terms of software development outsourcing, their characteristics, evaluation, measurement and design of the most suitable models of team organizational structures that can be used in practice.
