Monogeneans (Platyhelminthes) parasitizing North American fishes of the Cypriniformes: species diversity, host spectrum and biogeographical distribution

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je literární rešerší, která se zabývá druhovou diverzitou monogeneí parazitujících na/v cypriniformních rybách Severní Ameriky. Hlavním cílem této práce bylo shromáždit všechny dostupné zá-znamy o těchto parazitech a shrnout je do dvou checklistů: parazit-hostitel a hostitel-parazit. Checklisty uvedené v této práci by měly být užitečným zdro-jem informací pro budoucí parazitologický výzkum v této oblasti. Hostitel-sko-parazitární záznamy pocházely z celkem 138 druhů cypriniformních ryb (420 záznamů). Checklisty zahrnují celkem 234 druhů monogeneí, z nichž 228 druhů (10 rodů) reprezentuje podtřídu Polyonchoinea (Dactylogyridae, Gyrodactylidae, Pseudomurraytrematidae) a 6 druhů (2 rody) podtřídu He-teronchoinea (Discocotylidae, Octomacridae). Nejvyšší druhová bohatost monogeneí byla zaznamenána u těchto hostitelů: Luxilus cornutus (15 dru-hů), Semotilus atromaculatus (12 druhů), Carpiodes cyprinus (10 druhů) a L. chrysocephalus (10 druhů). Z hlediska hostitelské specifity, 61 % druhů mo-nogeneí lze zařadit mezi striktní specialisty, 19 % druhů mezi kongenerické specialisty, 13 % druhů mezi supragenerické specialisty a nejmenší podíl (tj. 7 % druhů) tvoří generalisti. Největší spektrum hostitelských druhů bylo zaznamenáno u monogeneí druhu Dactylogyrus banghami (13 hostitelských druhů; supragenerický specialista) a Octomacrum lanceatum (10 hostitel-ských druhů; vyšší generalista). Nejvíce druhů monogeneí (tj. 74 %) bylo za-znamenáno na žábrách (druhy rodu Cleidodiscus, Dactylogyrus, Myzotrema, Neodisocotyle, Octomacrum, Pseudomurraytrema) a celkem 14 % druhů na kůži a ploutvích (většinou druhy rodu Gyrodactylus a Pellucidhaptor, Pseuda-colpenteron pavlovskii). Část druhů (7 %) parazitovala jak na žábrách, tak na povrchu těla (některé druhy rodu Anonchohaptor, Gyrodactylus, Icelanon-chohaptor a Pellucidhaptor). Zbývající část tvořily druhy nalezené v nosních dutinách a dva druhy rodu Acolpenteron parazitující v močovodech a ledvi-nách ryb podřádu Catostomoidei. Součástí bakalářské práce je také identifi-kační klíč pro jednotlivé rody monogeneí, který byl sestaven na základě in-formací získaných při rešerši literatury.

Abstract:

This bachelor’s thesis is a literature review that deals with species di-versity of monogeneans parasitizing cypriniform fishes in North America. The main aim of this review was to compile all available records of these parasites and summarized them in two checklists: parasite-host and host-parasite. The checklists herein intend to assist and point at future parasito-logical research and surveys needed. In total, host-parasite records of mono-geneans from 138 cyprinifom species (420 records) were used. The check-lists include a total of 234 monogenean species represented by 228 species (10 genera) of Polyonchoinea (Dactylogyridae, Gyrodactylidae, Pseudomur-raytrematidae) and six species (two genera) of Heteronchoinea (Discocot-ylidae, Octomacridae). The highest monogenean species richness was rec-orded for the following cypriniform hosts: Luxilus cornutus (15 species), Semotilus atromaculatus (12 species), and Carpiodes cyprinus and L. chryso-cephalus (10 species each). In terms of host specificity, most monogeneans (i.e. 61 % of species) were represented by strict specialist, followed by con-generic specialists (19 % of species), suprageneric specialists (13 % of spe-cies), and generalists (7 % of species). The widest host range was shown by two monogenean species considered as suprageneric specialist and high generalist, Dactylogyrus banghami (13 host species) and Octomacrum lancea-tum (10 host species), respectively. Most species of monogeneans (74 %) have been reported strictly on the gills (species of Cleidodiscus, Dactylogyrus, Myzotrema, Neodisocotyle, Octomacrum, Pseudomurraytrema) and 14 % on the skin and fins (mostly species of Gyrodactylus and Pellucidhaptor, Pseudacolpenteron pavlovskii). A total of 7 % of monogenean species have been recorded on both the gills and the body surface (some species of Anonchohaptor, Gyrodactylus, Icelanonchohaptor and Pellucidhaptor). The remaining part consisted of species found in the nasal cavities and two spe-cies of Acolpenteron parasitizing the ureters and kidneys of Catostomoidei. The bachelor's thesis also includes an identification key for individual genera of monogeneans, which was compiled on the basis of information obtained during a literature search.
