Respect as a Factor in Education

Abstract:

Respekt je těžko definovatelný sociální konstrukt, který ovlivňuje téměř každou sociální interakci a kterého důležitost do jisté míry vědomě a částečně podvědomě vnímají všichni. Význam respektu ve vztahu mezi učitelem a žákem však není všeobecně přezkoumán a doceněn. Tato práce poodhaluje roli, kterou respekt ve vzdělávání hraje, a to jak pro studijní výkon žáků, tak pro atmosféru na vyučování. Práce také slouží jako základní vodítko pro učitele usilující o vytvoření respektujícího školního prostředí. Nabízí rady vyplývající z mnohých studií i odborné literatury, které můžou pomoci pedagogům, aby si respekt svých žáků získali a také udrželi, a byli tak efektivnějšími učiteli.

Abstract:

Respect is a social construct that is very difficult to define, yet it factors in almost every social interaction. Everyone perceives and recognizes the importance of respect, though only in part consciously and in part intuitively or subconsciously. The significance of respect in the relationship between a teacher and their pupils or students is not universally recognized. This paper uncovers the role respect plays in education, both for the school environment and performance. It provides basic guidance for teachers striving to create and maintain a respectful school environment, and offers advice based on included studies and literature that can help pedagogues gain and maintain respect of their students and pupils, and thus become more efficient teachers.
