Intercultural communicative competence of university teachers of English as foreign language in Palacký University Olomouc

Abstract:

The master diploma thesis focuses on the issue of intercultural communicative competence (ICC) of university teachers. The theoretical part of the diploma thesis defines the terms culture and its dimensions, language, the relationships between culture and language and intercultural communicative competence. The empirical part of the diploma thesis will present the results of preliminary research focused on the perception and beliefs of intercultural communicative competence among university teachers. The main research of the diploma is based on qualitative research, in which the researcher aims to verify the effects of models of intercultural communicative competence that would be applicable to the Czech university environment. In the qualitative part of the diploma thesis, the identification, analysis and interpretation of the needs of university teachers in the construction process of a model of intercultural competence is researched. Based on the results, it was possible to construct a model of intercultural competence, which, however, needs to be further researched and verified.
