Case study of a Hungarian food initiative in the context of degrowth

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce podrobně mapuje a analyzuje fungování alternativní potravinové sítě provozované farmou Zsámboki Biokert a organizací Cargonomia v Maďarsku a hodnotí míru inklinace zkoumané iniciativy k nerůstovým hodnotám na základě konceptuálního rámce sestaveného z prací vybraných autorů a autorek. Dílčím cílem práce je pojmenovat bariéry, které uplatňování nerůstových principů ztěžují, a způsoby přežívání zkoumané iniciativy v rámci převládajícího ekonomického systému. Design výzkumu je kvalitativní a je využitá metoda případové studie. Z práce plyne, že míra inklinace zkoumané iniciativy k nerůstovým principům je vysoká, ačkoliv spíše nezáměrná. Autorka dochází k závěru, že zkoumaná iniciativa v převládajícím ekonomickém systému čelí nadměrnému množství bariér, kterým je třeba věnovat náležitou pozornost.

Abstract:

This thesis maps and analyses in detail the functioning of an alternative food network operated by the Zsámboki Biokert farm and Cargonomia organisation in Hungary and assesses the degree to which this network fulfils specific degrowth values based on a conceptual framework derived from selected authors. A sub-objective of the thesis is to indicate barriers that make the application of degrowth principles difficult and the ways of survival of the researched initiative within the prevailing economic system. The research design is qualitative, and a case study method is used. The thesis shows considerable degree of inclination towards degrowth principles that the network under study fulfils, although rather unintentionally. The author concludes that the researched initiative also faces an excessive number of barriers within the prevailing economic system that need to be given due attention.
