Personality profile of patients with Crohn's disease in ROR

Abstract:

Our thesis is a pilot study focusing on people suffering from Crohn’s disease which is, at the present time, considered incurable, its etiology being unclear. The aim of the qualitative analysis, conducted according to 20 case studies, is understand personality dynamics and identify personality traits shared by people with Crohn’s disease. Results of the survey further help us define other research aims and objectives leading to a more comprehensive study of Crohn’s disease. In order to gather information about each person’s personality profile and its specifics, the Rorschach test, administered and interpreted according to John Exner’s Comprehensive System, was applied. The test interpretation focuses on an individual’s personality described with the help of three chosen case studies. These allow us to analyse the personality dynamics, in accordance with the Comprehensive System, in great detail. Furthermore, learning of common personality traits in Crohn’s disease patients, among which the problems to adapt to situations in various spheres of life were recognised, is of great interest in our research. Based on our findings, we suggest that the outbreak of Crohn’s disease can originate from a one’s personality.

Abstract:

Anotácia: Naša diplomová práca je pilotnou štúdiou zameranou na skupinu ľudí žijúcich s diagnózou Crohnovej choroby, dnes považovanú za neliečiteľnú s nejasnou etiológiou. Cieľom kvalitatívnej analýzy 20 prípadových štúdií je pochopenie dynamiky osobnosti a identifikácia spoločných osobnostných čŕt vyskytujúcich sa u osôb s touto diagnózou. Výsledky nášho výskumu sú využité k formulácii ďalších výskumných cieľov pre rozsiahlejšiu štúdie venujúcej sa problematike Crohnovej choroby. Obraz osobnosti a jej zvláštnosti sme zisťovali pomocou Rorschachovho testu. Test bol administrovaný a interpretovaný podľa štandardizovaného postupu Komprehensívneho systému vypracovanom Johnom Exnerom. Interpretácia sa sústreďuje na osobnosť jednotlivca, ktorá je popísaná pomocou troch vybraných prípadových štúdií, v ktorých je do hĺbky rozpracovaná dynamika osobnosti ako ju popisuje Komprehensívny systém. Súčasťou interpretácie je aj identifikácia spoločných znakov zo všetkých protokolov, kde sme narazili na problémy v prispôsobení sa v rôznych sférach života. Tieto zistenia naznačujú, že diagnóza Crohnovej choroby môže súvisieť s osobnosťou človeka.
