Spatial analysis of the long-term development of the retail network in Brno

Abstract:

Diplomová práce studuje vývoj maloobchodních provozoven na území města Brna s pomocí dat průzkumů maloobchodní sítě mezi lety 2003 až 2021. Hlavním cílem práce bylo zjistit, jak se v různých částech města měnil jak jejich počet a velikost, ale také sortimentní a prostorové rozložení. Území Brna bylo rozděleno celkem do šesti celků dle charakteru zástavby, na nichž byly zmíněné charakteristiky studovány do úrovně jednotlivých adres, ulic či sídlištních celků. Z dostupných podkladů a výsledků charakteru maloobchodu vznikla také vlastní klasifikace brněnských základních sídelních jednotek. Dle výsledků je zřejmé, že se v Brně vytvořila polycentrická struktura maloobchodu, zároveň dochází k postupnému přesunu některých prodejen do příměstského prostoru, čímž se zvyšuje komerční suburbanizace. Po výrazném poklesu počtu prodejen v první dekádě tohoto století se jejich stavy v posledních letech ustálily, což také může napovědět možný vývoj v dalších letech.

Abstract:

The thesis studied the development of retail outlets in the city of Brno with the help of data from retail network surveys between 2003 and 2021. The main objective of the thesis was to find out how the number and size of retail outlets, as well as their assortment and spatial distribution, changed in different parts of the city. The territory of Brno was divided into a total of six units according to the nature of the built-up area, where the characteristics mentioned above were studied down to the level of individual addresses, streets or housing estates. From the available data and the results of the retail characteristics, the actual classification of Brno's basic settlement units was also created. According to the results, it is clear that a polycentric retail structure has developed in Brno, while at the same time there is a gradual shift of some stores to the suburban area, which increases commercial suburbanisation. After a significant decline in the number of stores in the first decade of this century, their numbers have stabilised in recent years, which may also suggest possible developments in the coming years.
