Occupational Therapy Intervention in a Patient with Primary Progressive Form of Multiple Sclerosis

Abstract:

Úvod: Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá ergoterapeutickou intervencí u pacientky s roztroušenou sklerózou primární progresivní formy. Práce je rozdělena na teoretickou a hlavní část. V teoretické části jsou popsány charakteristika roztroušené sklerózy, symptomy onemocnění, diagnostika, léčba a rehabilitace, zejména možnosti ergoterapie. Hlavní část se věnuje konkrétní ergoterapeutické intervenci. Cíl práce: Cílem této bakalářské práce je analyzovat a prezentovat možnosti ergoterapeutické intervence u pacientky trpící primární progresivní formou roztroušené sklerózy, s důrazem na terapii pravé dominantní horní končetiny. Metodika: Pro vypracování mé bakalářské práce bylo potřeba vyhledat odbornou literaturu zabývající se roztroušenou sklerózou. Následně u pacientky proběhlo vstupní vyšetření s využitím různých metod hodnocení v podobě pozorování, rozhovoru, orientační vyšetření a testování standardizovanými testy. Dále proběhlo zhodnocení domácího prostředí pacientky a stanoven krátkodobý ergoterapeutický plán. Na základě výstupního vyšetření byl sestaven dlouhodobý ergoterapeutický plán. Výsledky: Výsledky byly zpracovány na základě vstupního a výstupního vyšetření. Cíle ergoterapie se podařilo naplnit. Závěr: Díky této práci jsem získala více vědomostí o roztroušené skleróze, které mohu nadále využívat ve své nadcházející praxi.

Abstract:

Introduction: This bachelor's thesis focuses on occupational therapy intervention in a patient with primary progressive multiple sclerosis. The work is divided into a theoretical part and a main part. The theoretical section describes the characteristics of multiple sclerosis, the symptoms of the disease, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation, particularly the possibilities of occupational therapy. The main part is dedicated to a specific occupational therapy intervention. Objective of the work: The aim of this bachelor's thesis is to analyze and present the possibilities of occupational therapy intervention for a patient suffering from primary progressive multiple sclerosis, with an emphasis on the therapy of the right dominant upper limb. Methodology: For the preparation of my bachelor's thesis, it was necessary to search for professional literature dealing with multiple sclerosis. Subsequently, an initial examination was conducted on the patient using various assessment methods in the form of observation, interviews, preliminary assessments, and testing with standardized tests. Additionally, an evaluation of the patient's home environment was performed, and a short-term occupational therapy plan was established. Based on the final examination, a long-term occupational therapy plan was developed. Results: The results were processed on the basis of the entrance and exit examination. The goals of occupational therapy were met. Conclusion: Thanks to this work I have gained more knowledge about multiple sclerosis, which I can continue to use in my upcoming practice.
