The influence of social isolation on mental health and work performance

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na téma sociální izolace s důrazem na její vliv na well-being a produktivitu práce. V teoretické části jsou charakterizovány základní pojmy související s tématem. Navazuje souhrn dosavadních vědeckých poznatků ohledně dopadů sociální izolace na psychické zdraví a pracovní výkonnost při práci z domova. Na závěr teoretické části je problematika popsána slovy odborníků z České republiky, kteří navazují na některé ze studií a hovoří o sociální izolaci ve spojení se současnou situací celosvětové pandemie. Praktická část má podobu kvalitativního výzkumu, v rámci něhož byly provedeny polostrukturované hloubkové rozhovory s pracujícími matkami z rodin s malými dětmi. Cílem této práce je analyzovat působení sociální izolace a okolností s ní spojených na well-being jedince a jeho produktivitu v pracovním procesu. Přínosem práce je zmapování odborných poznatků na toto téma a jejich porovnání s vlastním výzkumem zaměřeným na rodiny s malými dětmi. V závěru práce je shrnutí získaných poznatků a jsou zde vyvozena doporučení pro rodiny, které se mohou inspirovat alternativními přístupy k řešení situace za účelem zlepšení well-beingu a výkonnosti v práci.

Abstract:

The thesis is focused on the topic of social isolation with emphasis on its influence on well-being and labour productivity. The theoretical part describes the basic concepts related to the topic. Those are then followed by a summary of existing scientific knowledge about the effects of social isolation on mental health and work performance when working from home. At the end of the theoretical part, the issue is described by the words of experts from the Czech Republic, who follow up on some of the studies and speak about social isolation in connection with the current situation of the global pandemic. The practical part takes the form of qualitative research, in which semi-structured in-depth interviews with working mothers from families with young children were conducted. The aim of this work is to analyse the effects of social isolation and the circumstances associated with it on the well-being of an individual and his productivity at work. The benefit of the work is the mapping of professional knowledge on this topic and its comparison to my own research focused on families with small children. At the end of the thesis is a summary of the acquired findings and there are recommendations for families that can be inspired by alternative approaches to solving the situation in order to improve well-being and performance at work.
