The Industrial Architecture of Svitavy and its Present Utilization

Abstract:

Bakalářská diplomová práce „Průmyslová architektura Svitav a její současné využití“ se věnuje pojmu industriální architektura, odůvodňuje potřebu ochrany průmyslového dědictví a snaží se seznámit se způsoby, jakými je možné této ochrany docílit. Zdůrazněn je způsob uchování továrny jako technického muzea či konverze a nové funkce nevyužitých industriálů. Jsou zmíněny také organizace a výstavy, které se touto problematikou zabývají. K průmyslovému dědictví je přistupováno především z roviny umělecko-historické. Základem je rozlišení a schematizování hodnot, jenž lze rozpoznat u industriálních staveb. Veškeré poznatky sesbírané při zkoumání tématu industriální architektury jsou aplikovány na průmyslové dědictví Svitav, což je také hlavním cílem práce. Je vysvětlen přínos tohoto dědictví pro podobu města i objasněna role, jakou hrál průmysl a výstavba průmyslových objektů v historii. Následný popis jednotlivých významných staveb nás seznamuje s hodnotou svitavského průmyslového dědictví a věnuje se nejen historii objektů, ale také její současnosti, či budoucím plánům. Důraz je zde kladen na estetickou stránku industriálu i na jeho působení. Celkově se průzkum problematiky opírá o teze Aloise Riegla, jenž systematizuje památkovou péči, a práce vychází z dostupné literatury zabývající se industriální architekturou.

Abstract:

The paper “The Industrial Architecture of Svitavy and its Present Utilization” aims on the industrial architecture, shows the need of protection of industrial heritage and tries to find the ways how to achieve that. The paper highlights the meanings of preserving a factory as a technical museum or its conversion and new functions of unused industrials. The organizations and exhibitions which address this topic are mentioned as well. The view of the industrial heritage is art-historical in this paper. The basics are resolution and schematization of the values which can be recognized on the industrial buildings. All pieces of knowledge collected during the studies of the industrial architecture topic are applied to industrial heritage of Svitavy which is the main focus of this work. The contribution of the heritage for the town’s appearance is explained as well as the role of the industry and building of industrial structures in the history. Following description of particular significant structures introduces the value of Svitavy industrial heritage and it shows us not only the history of the structures but also their contemporaneousness and future plans. Industrial structures were divided into several groups based on contemporary utilization. The emphasis is placed on the esthetic aspect of the industrials as well as on its effect. Overall, the study is based on thesis of Alois Riegel who systematized the care of historical monuments. The paper is based on available publications which are focused on industrial architecture.
