The value of time in car transport

Abstract:

Cílem práce je odhadnout, při jaké hodnotě jsou lidé ochotní zvolit úspornější styl jízdy a prozkoumat faktory, které tuto hodnotu ovlivňují. Konkrétně pomocí survey experimentu zjišťujeme, zda existuje rozdíl mezi výší kompenzace, kterou by lidé museli dostat za to, že po dálnici pojedou pomaleji než maximální povolenou rychlostí a výší kompenzace, kterou by museli dostat za to, že pojedou po delší trase, jestliže je čas strávený na cestě v obou případech totožný. Odhad je proveden pomocí Tobit modelu. Hodnoty času jednotlivých účastníků experimentu jsou následně porovnány s reálnou úsporou peněz, jíž lze dosáhnout pomalejší jízdou.

Abstract:

This thesis aims to estimate the value at which people are willing to choose a more economical driving style and examine the factors that affect this value. We use a survey experiment to determine whether there is a difference between the amount of compensation that people would have to receive for driving highway slower than the maximum speed limit and the amount of compensation they would have to receive for driving on a longer route if the time spent on the road is the same in both cases. The value is estimated using the Tobit regression. The values of time of the individual participants in the experiment are then compared with the real money savings that can be achieved by driving slower.
