The IT infrastructure monitoring system based on Sens Go

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá návrhem postupu nasazení monitorovacího systému IT infrastruktury, který je založen na volně šiřitelné aplikace Sensu Go. Postup byl realizován za pomoci integrace open source technologií, které podporují monitorování IT infrastruktury a navržené řešení umožňuje realizovat rozsáhlý monitoring libovolných prvků IT infrastruktury. Nejprve se vysvětluje, proč daná práce byla pro autora zajímavá a uvádí se problémy, se kterými autor se potkal v praxi. Následně se provádí analýza současného stavu problematiky, porovnávají se existující řešení a uvádí se jednotlivé pohledy na proces monitoringu. Dále se na základě analýzy provádí model, který musí splňovat monitorovací systém, navržený v této diplomové práci. Následující kapitola se zabývá popisem jednotlivých částí modelu, které nesmí chybět v monitorovacím systému a návrhem určitého nástroje pro každou z nich. V této oblasti je kladen velký důraz na to, aby veškeré použité nástroje byly volně šiřitelné a jednoduše škálovatelné. V neposlední řadě se kontroluje, aby všechny nástroje dodržovaly bezpečnostní praktiky. Dále následuje proces instalace a konfigurace jednotlivých nástrojů. Závěrem se konfiguruje monitoring vybraného prvku a testuje se použitelnost navrženého systém. Hlavním přínosem práce vidím v seznámení čtenáře s celým procesem návrhu monitorovacího systému od analýzy jednotlivých části, ze kterých se skládá, do praktické konfigurace kontrol monitoringu.

Abstract:

This thesis is talking about designing and deploying monitoring system of IT infrastructure, which is based on open source software Sensu Go. The whole project was done using just open source technologies supporting a monitoring of IT infrastructure and the resulting solution is possible to deploy for monitoring on wide variety of parts of IT infrastructure. First part of the thesis is introductory, explaining the reader writer’s main driver behind this thesis ranging from plain interest to real case scenarios writer was facing. Following part is focused on analysis of current issues and their states, comparing already existing solutions and introducing different approaches to monitoring. Based on knowledge gained in previous chapter, we prepare our model for our monitoring system. In the next chapter we describe all parts of our model that cannot be absent in monitoring system and suggest for each of them the best fitting tools. While looking for the best fitting tools, our main criteria are that all of the tools must be freely available as open source as well as it must be possible to scale them. Important criterion for us is also that all our tools must follow some security practice. Followed by that is process of installation and configuration of our designed system. The main goal of this thesis is to introduce reader to the whole process of designing and deploying of monitoring system, what parts of the system are necessary and should not be forgotten and to share some knowledge based on real case scenarios.
