Feminism as a fight for equality and as a fight for gender difference

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je porovnat vybrané aspekty feminismu 19. století, ve kterém šlo o rovnoprávnost žen v zaměstnání a politice, s feminismem 20. století, v němž jde o zdůraznění odlišnosti obou pohlaví. První část se zabývá teoretickým vysvětlením pojmu feminismus, jeho vývojových stádiích a hlavních myšlenkách, jež poskytnou základ pro analytický rozbor konkrétních feministických koncepcí prostřednictvím děl jednotlivých feministických myslitelů. V druhé části dojde k představení vybraných myslitelů a myslitelek liberálního feminismu 19. století, který obhajuje rovnoprávnost v politice a zaměstnání. Třetí část bude tematizovat feminismus odlišnosti ve 20. století. Pro tento směr platí, že i osobní je politické. Tematizován bude též vztah mezi sexem a genderem, obraz sexuality na veřejnosti, spor o to, zda obě pohlaví mají spolupracovat či jsou v konfliktu, a význam sloganu, že osobní a soukromé je politické. Vědecký přínos práce spočívá v poukazu na kontinuitu a proměny jednotlivých podob feminismu.

Abstract:

The thesis aims to compare selected aspects of 19th-century feminism, which concerned women's equality in employment and politics, with 20th-century feminism, which was about emphasizing the difference between the two sexes. The first chapter clarifies the theoretical explanation of the term feminism, its developmental stages, and main ideas, which will provide the basis for the analytical research of specific feminist concepts through the works of individual feminist thinkers. In the second part, selected liberal feminist thinkers of the 19th century who advocate equality in politics and employment will be described. The third part will focus on the feminism of difference in the 20th century, which has been led by the idea that the personal is also political. The relationship between sex and gender, the image of sexuality in public, the dispute over whether the two sexes should cooperate or stand against each other, and the meaning of the slogan that personal and private are political will also be thematized. The scientific contribution of the work is the identification of the continuity and changes of particular feminism forms.
