Evaluation of the effectiveness of the post-denitrification filter at the Hradec Králové WWTP

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na posouzení účinnosti postdenitrifikačního filtru (PDN) typu BioFOR na městské čistírně odpadních vod v Hradci Králové v průběhu desetiletého provozu, zohledňovány jsou také jednotlivé faktory ovlivňující průběh denitrifikace. Teoretická část práce se zabývá problematikou odstraňovaní dusičnanů a celkového dusíku ze sekundárních odpadních vod s nevyhovujícím poměrem uhlíku a dusíku pomocí technologie postdenitrifikace. Pozornost je věnována biologickým filtrům s řízenou denitrifikací, které jsou k odstraňování dusíku využívány. Jednotlivé filtry využívají k denitrifikaci různé typy organického substrátu poskytující uhlík od čehož se odvíjí i jejich účinnost. V praktické části je zhodnocena účinnost postdenitrifikačního filtru typu BioFor provozovaného na městské čistírně v Hradci Králové. Po zpracování dat se ukázalo, že PDN filtr vykazuje stále stejnou účinnost jako v době uvedení do provozu. Podrobná analýza dat poukázala na problém akumulace dusitanů, jenž byl během let vyřešen. Dále byla zaznamenána nízká hodnota plošného zatížení, což brání filtru pracovat s maximální účinností. V neposlední řadě se ukázalo, že došlo ke skokovému nárůstu specifické spotřeby metanolu v důsledku navýšení vstupní koncentrace dusičnanového dusíku, jenž byla zapříčiněná nižší koncentrací biodegradabilního uhlíku v konvekční denitrifikaci (pokles BSK5).

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis focuses on the assessment of the effectiveness of the post-denitrification filter (PDN) of the BioFOR type at the municipal wastewater treatment plant in Hradec Králové during ten years of operation, individual factors influencing the course of denitrification are also considered. The theoretical part of the work deals with the problem of removal of nitrates and total nitrogen from secondary wastewater with an unsatisfactory ratio of carbon and nitrogen using post-denitrification technology. Attention is paid to biological filters with managed denitrification, which is used to remove nitrogen. Individual filters use different types of denitrification of the organic substrate providing carbon, which also depends on their efficiency. In the practical part, the effectiveness of the post-denitrification filter of the BioFor type operated at the municipal treatment plant in Hradec Králové is evaluated. After processing, it turned out that the PDN filter still shows the same efficiency as at the time of commissioning. Closer analyzes revealed the problem of nitrite accumulation, which was solved over the years. Furthermore, a low surface load value was recorded, which prevents the filter from working at maximum efficiency. In the end, it turned out that there was a jump in growth the specific consumption of methanol due to an increase in the input concentration of nitrate nitrogen, which was caused by a lower concentration of biodegradable carbon in convective denitrification (a decrease in BOD5).
