The perception of Slavonic nomination for inscription on the UNESCO's World Heritage List

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá tématem potenciálního zápisu lokality na Seznam světového dědictví UNESCO na případu Slavonic. Hlavním cílem práce je identifikace vnímání nominace Slavonic na zápis na Seznam světového dědictví UNESCO z pohledu místních obyvatel a místních aktérů cestovního ruchu. Úvod práce se zaměřuje na dopady turismu na lokalitu na základě převážně zahraniční literatury. Následují části věnované městu Slavonice a organizaci UNESCO. V rámci výzkumu byly použity jak kvantitativní, tak i kvalitativní metody. Kvantitativní výzkum proběhl formou dotazníkového šetření s místními obyvateli. Kvalitativní výzkum proběhl formou semi-strukturovaných rozhovorů s místními aktéry cestovního ruchu. Výzkumná část byla stěžejní pro finální interpretaci výsledků. Obě skupiny si uvědomují pozitiva i případná úskalí, ale byl zjištěn kontrast mezi dotazníkovým šetřením a semi-strukturovanými rozhovory. Místní obyvatelé si uvědomují rizika, která by mohla nastat a přemýšlí o situaci, naopak místní aktéři cestovního ruchu převážně řeší finance v podobě dotací, příspěvků, podpory z projektů či zisků zásluhou nárůstu turistů. Z výsledků vyplývá, že většina obyvatel je pro zapsání Slavonic na Seznam světového dědictví UNESCO.

Abstract:

This master’s thesis deals with the topic of potential inscription of the site on the UNESCO World Heritage List in the case of Slavonice. The main goal of this work is to identify the perception of Slavonice's nomination for inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List from the perspective of local residents and local actors of tourism. Introduction deals with the impacts of tourism on the locality based mainly on foreign literature. The following sections are dedicated to the town of Slavonice and the UNESCO organization. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were used in the research. Quantitative research took the form of a questionnaire survey with local people. Qualitative research took the form of semi-structured interviews with local tourism actors. The research part was crucial for the final interpretation of the results. Both groups are aware of the positives and potential negatives, but a contrast was found between the questionnaire survey and semi-structured interviews. Locals are aware of the risks that could arise and think about the situation, on the contrary, the actors of local tourism deal mainly with finances in the form of subsidies, contributions, support from projects or profits due to the increase in tourists. The results show that the majority of the population is in favor of the inscription Slavonic on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
