Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá vývojem šamanismu a tradičního léčitelství žen původních obyvatel Spojených států amerických a Kanady. Tato práce je rozdělena na dvě části, a to na teoretickou a analytickou. Teoretická část práce se věnuje především spiritualitě původních obyvatel, která je úzce spjata s šamanismem a léčitelstvím. Sleduje vývoj statusu domorodých žen v patriarchální společnosti od počátku kolonizace. Historické události měly vliv na jejich kulturu, a tedy i na šamanismus a tradiční léčitelství. Ty se staly trnem v oku nejen nově příchozím církvím, ale rovněž kolonizačním velmocím usilujícím o získání kontroly nad domorodými obyvateli. Praktiky mající za cíl potlačit domorodé obyvatele a jejich kulturu se nesly až do konce 20. století a jsou patrné dodnes, kdy ženy pociťují další útlak např. ve formě sexismu či domácího násilí. Těmito důsledky, jež negativně ovlivňují fyzické a především psychické zdraví žen, se následně zabývá analytická část práce. I přes útlaky, které kultura původních obyvatel USA a Kanady pocítila, se ji podařilo alespoň částečně zachovat. V průběhu staletí se šamanismus a tradiční léčitelství měnily podle potřeb původních obyvatel a v dnešní době jsou považovány za nejúčinnější prostředek k léčbě především psychických nemocí, kterými celá společnost domorodých obyvatel trpí. Cílem této práce je za pomoci konkrétních příkladů prozkoumat, do jakých forem se šamanistické a léčitelské praktiky domorodých žen vyvinuly a jak jsou aplikované v praxi.

Abstract:

This thesis adresses development of shamanism and traditional healing of Indigenous women of the United States of America and Canada. The thesis is divided into two major parts; the theoretical and the analytical. The theoretical part is dedicated mainly to the spirituality of the Indigenous people which is closely linked to the shamanism and the traditional healing. It follows the development of Indigenous women’s status in a patriarchal society since colononialism. Historical events had an impact on their culture and, in turn, on the shamanism and traditional healing. The shamanism and the traditional healing represented an adversary not only to the newcoming Church but as well to the world powers striving to gain control over the Indigenous people. Their practices aiming to suppress Native Americans and their culture lasted until the end of the 20th century and are apparent to this day when the women are the victims of the further oppresions such as sexism or domestic violence. The analytical part of the work is dedicated to the after-effects on the physical and especially mental health of these women. Despite the oppression the Indigenous people from the United States and Canada experienced, they managed to partially preserve their culture. Over the centuries, the shamanism and the spirituality of the Indigenous people had been adjusting to their needs and are the most suitable tools for curing especially mental health issues – a widespread problem among Indigenous people. This thesis uses concrete examples to explore the forms shamanic and healing practices of Indigenous women evolved into and how they are applied into practice.
