Attachement and conflict resolution styles in romantic relationships

Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to test the relationship between the attachment and the conflict resolution style in couples’ relationships. The further goal was to find out whether there are some gender differences in the conflict resolution. The research sample consisted of 82 respondents, what corresponded to 41 pairs. The data were collected through online questionnaire. The analysis was calculated based on dyadic data. The results confirmed, that there are the differences in the conflict resolution between some attachment styles. The hypothesis, that secure couples use more often constructive strategies of conflict resolution than insecure couples and in opposite, that insecure couples prefer more often destructive strategies then secure couples was confirmed. There were no differences found between mixed and insecure couples in the conflict resolution. The only gender differences were found in mixed and insecure couples in constructive conflict resolution. Women preferred more often the constructive strategies of conflict than men.

Abstract:

Cieľom práce bolo overiť vzťah medzi citovou väzbou a výberom konfliktu medzi pármi, ktoré tvorili partnerské dvojice. Ďalším cieľom bolo zistiť, či existujú rozdiely medzi pohlavím pri výbere konfliktu. Výskumnú vzorku tvorilo 82 respondentov, ktorí odpovedali 41 párom. Dáta boli zozbierané pomocou webového dotazníku. Analýza dát bola vypočítaná na základe dyadických dát. Výskumná vzorka bola rozdelená podľa typov citovej väzby na tri páry: isté, neisté a zmiešané. Výsledky analýzy ukázali, že medzi niektorými typmi citovej väzby existuje rozdiel vo výbere stratégie konfliktu. Potvrdila sa napríklad hypotéza, že isté páry používajú častejšie konštruktívne stratégie konfliktu ako neisté a zase naopak, že neisté páry preferujú viac deštruktívne stratégie konfliktu ako isté páry. Žiadne rozdiely sa nenašli me-dzi zmiešanými a neistými pármi vo výbere konfliktu. Jediné genderové rozdiely boli potvrdené v zmiešaných a neistých pároch pri výbere konštruktívnej stratégie konfliktu. Ženy preferovali viac konštruktívne stratégie konfliktu ako muži.
