Changes in population structures of Czech suburbs in the context of population dynamics

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se snaží objasnit populační vývoj vybraných suburbií mezi lety 2001 a 2021 skrze analýzu zvolených demografických ukazatelů přirozeného, mechanického a socioekonomického pohybu obyvatelstva. Finálního počtu zájmových obcí je dosaženo vlastní autorovou metodikou opírající se o studii Vymezení území pro Integrované teritoriální investice v ČR. Prvotní analýza zahrnuje obce všech správních obvodů obcí s rozšířenou působností zasahujících do aglomerací vymezených touto studií. Zájmové obce překračují zvolenou minimální přípustnou hranici dvou ukazatelů – intenzity bytové výstavby a relativního celkového přírůstku obyvatel jako základních předpokladů rezidenční suburbanizace. Následně se empirie zabývá obcemi pouze jedné z metropolitních oblastí – pražské. Demografická data jsou shromážděna z Veřejné databáze Českého statistického úřadu. Byl zjištěn velmi dynamický vývoj struktur obyvatel suburbií trvající do konce první dekády 21. století vlivem imigrace populačně silných generací, ekonomické prosperity, mírně se zvyšující úhrnné plodnosti a zprvu také velmi malé průměrné populační velikosti obcí. Stádium kulminace migračního přírůstku suburbií představovalo období nejvýraznějších disparit struktur obyvatel v porovnání s celorepublikovým průměrem. Následný pokles a stagnace vývoje demografických ukazatelů, trvající ve většině případů do současnosti, spěje k postupnému shlazování rozdílů ve strukturách obyvatel mezi suburbii a zbytkem České republiky. Suburbánní areály pražské metropolitní oblasti nyní těží z předchozí migrace, následně však budou za poklesu podílu raně produktivních rezidentů a populačně slabších generací narozených v 90. letech 20. století pravděpodobně čelit výraznějšímu demografickému stárnutí.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis aims to elucidate the population development of selected suburbs between 2001 and 2021 through the analysis of chosen demographic indicators of natural, mechanical, and socioeconomic population movement. The final selection of target municipalities is achieved through the autho's own methodology based on the study Defining Areas for Integrated Territorial Investments in the Czech Republic. The initial analysis encompasses municipalities from all administrative district with extended competence intersecting with the agglomerations defined by this study. Target municipalities exceed the chosen minimum permissible threshold of two indicators – housing construction intensity and relative total population growth – as fundamental assumptions of residential suburbanization. Subsequently, the empirical part focuses on municipalities within one of the metropolitan areas – Prague. Demographic data are gathered from the Public Database of the Czech Statistical Office. A highly dynamic development of suburban population structures was observed until the end of the first decade of the 21st century, influenced by the immigration of population strong generations, economic prosperity, a slightly increasing overal fertility rate, and initially very small average population sizes of municipalities. The culmination stage of suburban migration represented the period of the most pronounced disparities in population structures compared to the nationwide average. The subsequent decline and stagnation in the development of demographic indicators, lasting in most cases until the present, tend towards gradually smoothing out the differences in population structures between the suburbs and the rest of the Czech Republic. Suburban areas of the Prague metropolitan region currently benefit from previous migration; however, with a decline in the proportion of early productive residents and population weaker generations born in the 1990s, they are likely to face more significant demographic ageing.
