Strategies of opening the Brno underground to the public and proposals for its integration into the public space

Abstract:

Diplomová práce o brněnském podzemí je rozdělena do dvou částí: 1) historické, se zaměřením na vznik a proměny rolí podzemních prostorů, 2) manažerské, věnované jejich současném využití. Důležitým zdrojem informací, tvořícím přílohu práce, byl rozhovor s odborníkem Ing. Alešem Svobodou, který se danému tématu věnuje již více než 35 let. Cílem je zhodnocení manažerských aspektů zpřístupnění brněnského podzemí. Proto je součástí práce komparace způsobů využívání podobných prostorů ve Znojmě, kde se údajně nachází největší podzemní labyrint ve střední Evropě, ale také v zahraničí (Kodaň, Istanbul, Paříž). Kromě návrhů nových možností využití již zpřístupněných úseků podzemí, kostnice u sv. Jakuba a vodojemů na Žlutém kopci, práce obsahuje také koncepty zpřístupnění dosud nevyužívaných sklepních prostorů bývalého Německého domu na Moravském náměstí a zaniklých domů na Římském náměstí.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis about the Brno underground is divided into two parts: 1)historical, focusing on the origins and changes in the roles of underground spaces, 2)managerial, focusing on their current usage. An important source of information, forming an appendix to the thesis, was an interview with the expert Ing. Aleš Svoboda, who has been working on the topic for more than 35 years. The aim is to evaluate the managerial aspects of access to the Brno underground. Therefore, the the-sis includes a comparison of the methods of utilizing similar spaces in Znojmo, where the largest underground labyrinth in Central Europe is said to be located, but also abroad (Copenhagen, Istanbul, Paris). In addition to proposals for new possibilities of utilising the already accessible sections of the underground, the ossuary at St. James and the water tanks on Žlutý kopec, the thesis also includes concepts for making the previously unused cellar spaces of the former German House on Moravské náměstí and the defunct houses on Římské náměstí accessible.
