Forms of pro-social behavior in volunteer activities of adults

Abstract:

Podoby prosociáolního chování v dobrovolné činnosti představuje práci teoreticko-empirického charakteru. Díky faktu, že prosociální chování je konstrukt napříč odbornou literaturou definován spíše nejednoznačně, je velká část teoretická části věnována právě teoriím a konceptům. Ač je prosociální chování tématem, které doprovází lidstvo již od nepaměti, pozornost odborné veřejnosti o danou oblast začala teprve před pár desítkami let. Což se podepisuje právě na nejednotnosti teoretických přístupů. Dále tomu nahrává i fakt, že prosociální chování byvá spojováno s altruismem a neexistuje konsensus, zda je chápat jako synonyma či protiklady. Ve snaze najít hlavní motiv prosociálního chování, tak odborná literatura vede spory, zda je více způsobeno altruistickými či egoistickými motivy. Výzkumná část kvalitativního výzkumu pak s pomocí analýzy 8 rozhovorů hledá odpověd na to, jak dobrovolníci reflektují svojí činnost. Zaměřuje se tak na otázky, jak proces pomáhání u dobrovolníků ve věku nad 35 let vypadá, co je na pomáhání baví a co je v procesu pomáhání stále udržuje.

Abstract:

Forms of pro-social behavior in volunteer activities is a theoretical-empirical type of work. Considering that the pro-social behavior is a construct defined rather vaguely throughout academic literature, the vast majority of theoretical part of the work is dedicated to various miscellaneous theories and concepts. Even though the pro-social behavior is a topic that accompanies the humanity since the dawn of time, the scholarly focus on the issue can be tracked back in time only several decades. This is reflected on the inconsistencies in the theoretical approaches. Furthermore, the fact that pro-social behavior is commonly associated with altruism and there is no consensus whether this should be considered synonymous or contradictory, the matter continues to be problematic. In the attempts to reveal the motivation for the pro-social behavior, the academic literature debates whether altruistic or egoistic motivation is the dominant one. The explorative part of the qualitative interview then through the analysis of eight interviews searches for the answer of how the volunteers in question reflect their activities. It aims to answer the question of what form the process of helping others actually takes with the respondents of above 35 years of age, what do they enjoy on the process and what keeps them going.
