Motivation of students for studying social policy and social work at FSS MU

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce bylo zjistit, co studenty motivovalo popř. ovlivnilo při volbě studijního oboru sociální politika a sociální práce na FSS MU. Odpovědí na tuto otázku byla analýza rozhovorů s respondenty. Rozhovory byly provedeny kvalitativně, metodou rozhovoru pomocí návodu. Za výběrový soubor bylo zvoleno deset respondentů třetího ročníku prezenční formy studia oboru sociální politika a práce na FSS MU – jejich výběr proběhl technikou sněhové koule. Na základě odpovědí respondentů a následné analýzy je možno říci, že respondenti byli ke studiu oboru sociální politika a práce na FSS MU motivováni zejména hodnotami, jež se zaměřují na mezilidské vztahy a na jejich budování, dále proto, že studium vnímají jako zajímavé a jako přípravu na povolání, o kterém již nyní vědí, že je bude naplňovat a které vnímají jako kreativní, různorodou a smysluplnou činnost. Respondenti taktéž reflektovali i možnou „kontaminaci,“ jejich motivací, tedy postranní motivy, které je mohly dovést ke studiu, potažmo výkonu sociální politiky a práce. Mezi nejčastěji uváděné patřilo dilema mezi chutí pomáhat a dobrým pocitem, který pomáhání přináší. Dále se objevovaly problematické motivy spojené s přehnaným soucitem, naplňování svých potřeb skrze potřeby jiných a touha po moci. Jednání respondentů bylo ve většině případů řízeno uvědomělou motivací. Jako faktory pro studium tohoto oboru právě na FSS MU byly uváděny kvalita školy, náplň či povaha studia a město Brno. Rozsah textu je 12 995 slov.

Abstract:

Abstract: The goal of this thesis was to find out, what motivated students to study social politics and social work at Faculty of Social studies in Brno. To learn this, the analysis of interviews with respondents was done. As respondents were chosen ten social politics and social work students studying this major for third year in present form of study. The choice was based on snowball technique. The analysis of interviews showed that decision making process about what major and what university to choose was based on values linked to relationships and their improvement among people. The other reason was that studying of this major is perceived as an interesting and as a preparation for future employment in area, which is interesting, creative, fulfilling and meaningful. Respondents also reflected possible „contamination“of their motivations – side motives which could lead them to study social politics and social work or to work in helping professions. The most appeared was a dilemma between an urge to help and a good feeling, which is connected to helping others. Other problematic motivations were linked to compassion and sympathy, fulfilling own needs through needs of others and wish to manipulate others. The respondents’ behavior was mostly lead by conscious motivations. Factors for studying social politics and social work at Masaryk University were following: the quality of school, the curriculum of study and the place where university is located – Brno.
