Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na postavu Zeleného rytíře - jednu z hlavních postav středověké básně Sir Gawain a Zelený rytíř. Ústřední otázkou práce je "Kdo je Zelený rytíř?". Cílem práce je dokázat pomocí analýzy postavy Zeleného rytíře, jeho role v básni a potenciálních zdrojů inspirace pro tuto postavu, že Zelený rytíř je především dvojznačnou postavou, která věrně odzrcadluje éru autora této básně - období anglického středověku. Cílem této práce je také dokázat, že různé interpretace role Zeleného rytíře v básni a potenciálních zdrojů postavy Zeleného rytíře nejsou v rozporu, ale naopak jsou propojeny a vzájemně se doplňují.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on the character of the Green Knight – one of the main characters of the medieval poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. The central question of the thesis is "Who is the Green Knight?". Hence, the thesis aims to prove, with the support of analysis of the Green Knight’s character, his role in the poem, and the potential sources of inspiration for his character, that the Green Knight is above all an ambiguous figure mirroring the age of the Gawain-poet, the medi-eval period. Additionally, the thesis aims to demonstrate that the various interpretations of the Green Knight’s role in the poem and the potential antecedents of the character of the Green Knight do not contradict or exclude each other but on the contrary they are interconnected and complement each other.
