Abstract:

Tato studie zkoumá vliv konkurence na ceny a frekvence na trhu dálkové dopravy v Evropě, s důrazem na železniční dopravu. Intramodální konkurence je zprostředkovaná Herfindahl-Hirschmanovým indexem (HHI). Intermodální konkurence bere v úvahu služby leteckou dopravy, autokaru a stále populárnější služby spolujízdy, zatímco železniční služby se používají jako referenční. Jedinečnost této analýzy vychází především z použité databáze. Výsledky ukazují, že intermodální konkurence má významný vliv na frekvence. Její vliv na ceny je přibližně stejný jako u intramodální konkurence, ta má však významný dopad na frekvence.

Abstract:

This study explores the effect of competition on prices and frequencies for long-distance transport market in Europe, with the emphasis rail transport. Intramodal competition is proxied by the Herfindahl-Hirschman Index (HHI). Intermodal competition takes into account airline, coach and increasingly popular carpooling services while rail services are used as a reference. The uniqueness of this analysis comes mainly from the database used. The results show that intermodal com-petition has notable effect on frequencies. Its effect on prices is approximately the same as the one from intramodal competition, however the latter has a significant impact on frequencies.
