Distribution of radiation load in the field of X-rays during skiagraphy

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou, která souvisí s radiační zátěží a ochranou pacientů při skiagrafii. Teoretická část se zabývá ionizujícím zářením, jeho vznikem, vlastnostmi a veličinami, které se vztahují k ionizujícímu záření. Významná část je věnována rentgenovému záření. Dále tato část práce pojednává o biologických účincích záření, skiagrafii, radiační zátěži a radiační ochraně pacientů při skiagrafii. Cílem bakalářské práce je stanovit chyby a nejistoty měření plošné kermy a posoudit vliv velikosti a tvaru pole rentgenového záření na radiační zátěž pacienta, vliv nastavení parametrů na rentgenové lampě na velikost plošné kermy a zhodnotit rozložení radiační zátěže v poli rentgenového záření. Metodou praktické části byl experiment, který byl proveden ve Fakultní nemocnici v Ostravě na pracovišti Radiodiagnostického ústavu. Bylo provedeno měření hodnot plošné kermy v různých expozičních podmínkách, vyhodnocení a interpretace vzhledem k radiační ochraně pacientů při skiagrafii. Z provedených měření bylo dále posouzeno rozložení (homogenita) radiační zátěže v ozářeném poli rentgenového záření.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with issues related to radiation exposure and patient protection during skiagraphy. The theoretical part deals with ionizing radiation, its origin, and properties. It also focuses on quantities that relate to ionizing radiation. A significant part is devoted to X-rays. Furthermore, this part of the work deals with the biological effects of radiation, skiagraphy, radiation exposure and radiation protection of patients during skiagraphy. The aim of this bachelor thesis is to determine the errors and uncertainties of area kerma measurements, to assess the influence of the size and shape of the X-ray field on the patient's radiation exposure and to assess the effect of X-ray lamp parameter settings on the size of the area kerma and evaluate the distribution of radiation exposure in the X-ray field. The method of the practical part was an experiment which was performed in the University Hospital in Ostrava at the workplace of the Radiodiagnostic Institute. Measurements of area kerma in various exposure conditions, evaluation and interpretation with respect to radiation protection of patients during skiagraphy were performed. The distribution (homogeneity) of the radiation exposure in the irradiated X-ray field was further assessed from the performed measurements.
