Analysis of indicators of unequal remuneration for men and women

Abstract:

Cílem diplomové práce je analyzovat ukazatele nerovného odměňování mužů a žen, což je téma, které se ve vyspělých zemích dostává mezi aktuálně řešené problémy. Tento ekonomický ukazatel, nejčastěji nazývaný gender pay gap, v sobě skrývá několik problémů, které znesnadňují jeho interpretaci, což si ne všichni, kteří s tímto ukazatelem pracují, uvědomují. V této práci je poukázáno na odlišnou metodiku výpočtu jednotlivými institucemi. Dále je posouzena relevance tohoto ukazatele v závislosti na odměňování, která se odvíjí nejen od pohledu zaměstnance, ale i zaměstnavatele a legislativního vymezení. V práci jsou vyjmenovány možné příčiny nerovného odměňování. V analytické části práce je pro detailnější vhled do problematiky použito více statistických metod. Na rozkladu indexu proměnlivého složení je přiblížen vliv vzdělání a rozdělení do pracovních odvětví v České republice. Dále práce obsahuje výpočet očekávaného rozdílu v odměňování studentů vysokých škol na základě dat z šetření EUROSTUDENT. Ke zjištění, které faktory mohou nerovnost v odměňování ovlivňovat, je použita regresní analýza s využitím shlukové a faktorové analýzy.

Abstract:

The aim of this diploma thesis is to analyze the indicators of unequal remuneration for men and women, as this topic gets among the problems currently discussed in developed countries. This economic indicator, most commonly called the gender pay gap, conceals several problems that make it difficult to interpret it, which not all who work with this indicator are aware of. This thesis points out different methodology of calculation of individual institutions and evaluates the relevance of this indicator depending on remuneration, which depends not only on the employee's point of view, but also on the employer and the legislative definition. Furthermore, the possible causes of unequal reward are listed. In the analytical part of the thesis, various statistical methods are used. The decomposition of the variable composition index reflects the impact of education and divisions on the labor sectors in the Czech Republic. The thesis also contains the calculation of expected gender pay gap of university students, for which the EUROSTUDENT survey was used. Furthermore, regression analysis is used for a more detailed insight into the issue, using a cluster and factor analysis to determine the factors that can influence the inequality in remuneration.
