New social movements and activism on the terraces: the case of critical engagement of Czech football supporters

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřena na kritickou angažovanost fotbalových fanoušků v ČR. Časový rámec práce je stanoven nástupem vedení Fotbalové asociace České republiky v čele se stávajícím předsedou Miroslavem Peltou do své funkce. Analýza sekundárních dat v práci umožní demonstrovat existující krizi legitimity FAČR na příkladu témat, jež fanoušci při své kritice reflektují. Samotnou krizi dokládá dění na fotbalových stadionech, kde fanoušci pravidelně vyjadřují nespokojenost s vedením českého fotbalu prostřednictvím vulgarit a transparentů. Cílem práce bude kromě zachycení klíčových okamžiků, formujících v posledních letech vztah fanoušků a FAČR, také analýza charakteru kolektivních akcí, které fanoušci pro svou kritiku užívají. Pro jejich vymezení bude hrát důležitou roli teorie forem jednání Charlese Tillyho. Vymezení specifických forem jednání následně umožní diskusi nad tím, jakou roli při interpretaci kritické angažovanosti českých fanoušků hrají koncepty aktivismu a nových sociálních hnutí. Práce by tak měla ve svém závěru nabídnout poučení nejen o tom, co a jakým způsobem fanoušci požadují, ale také kam je specifika jejich jednání řadí v rámci sociologické teorie.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the critical engagement of football supporters in the Czech Republic. Timeframe for this work is determined by the onset of current leadership of Football Association of the Czech Republic headed by the Chairman Miroslav Pelta. Secondary data analysis will allow to demonstrate the existing legitimation crisis of FACR on the example of topics that supporters reflects in their criticism. The actual crisis is illustrated by what is happening in football stadiums, where supporters regularly express their dissatisfaction with the leadership of the Czech football through vulgarities and banners. The aim of the work in addition to capturing key moments forming a relationship of supporters and the FACR is to analyze the nature of collective actions used by supporters for their criticism. Charles Tilly's theory of repertoire of contention will play the important role in defining those actions. Defining specific forms of action will then allow to discuss the part which concepts of activism and new social movements may have when interpreting supporters' behavior. In its conclusion this thesis should not only offer a guidance on what the fans demand, but also where the specifics of their actions rank them in the context of sociological theory.
