Evaluation of PM10 and PM2.5 concentrations in Ostrava in selected locations in 2019

Abstract:

Úvod: Ostravsko patří dlouhodobě mezi nejvíce znečištěnou oblast ve střední Evropě, jedná se především o znečištění způsobené polétavým prachem (suspendovanými částicemi frakcí PM10 a PM2,5). Cílem práce je popsat vztah mezi hodnotami PM10 a PM2,5 i v závislosti na ročním období a dále vyhodnotit závislost hodnot PM10 a PM2,5 na dnech v týdnu a denní hodině. Teoretická část se zabývá vlastnostmi PM, jejich vlivem na zdraví a historickým vývojem hodnot PM10 v Ostravě. Praktická část je zaměřena na analýzu hodnot PM10 a PM2,5 za rok 2019 a porovnání dvou oblastí s odlišnou zátěží. Jedná se o stanice umístěné v Radvanicích a Porubě. Metodika: Data použitá k vyhodnocování pro praktickou část byla poskytnuta Zdravotním ústavem se sídlem v Ostravě a pochází ze stanic Ostrava - Radvanice ZÚ a Ostrava - Poruba. Měření probíhalo od 1.1.2019 do 31.12.2019. Získané hodnoty PM10 a PM2,5 byly průměrné 24hodinové a hodinové. Měřící stanice Ostrava - Poruba započala kontinuální měření 24hodinových hodnot frakce PM2,5 až od 17.6.2019, proto jsou hodnoty uvedeny až od 18.6.2019, tato absence dat se projevila i při zpracování. Jednotlivé údaje (PM10, PM2,5 a poměr PM2,5/PM10) za rok 2019 byly zpracovány popisnou statistikou. Závislost hodnot PM10 a PM2,5 byla vyjádřena lineární regresní přímkou a Pearsonovým korelačním koeficientem. Pro srovnání naměřených hodnot mezi oblastmi, dle období a časových úseků byl použit neparametrický Mann-Whitney test a Kruskal-Wallisův test. Výsledky: Ve většině případů došlo při zpracování dat k statisticky významným rozdílům hodnot mezi stanicemi. Nejvyšší průměrné hodnoty PM10 a PM2,5 se nacházely na stanici Ostrava - Radvanice. Při vyhodnocení v závislosti na dny v týdnu a denní hodině byly použity pouze hodnoty frakce PM10. Porovnání stanic není úplné z důvodu absence dat frakce PM2,5 na stanici Poruba. Závěr: Rozdíl mezi stanicemi je dán především jejich umístěním a typem. Stanice Ostrava - Radvanice ZÚ je ovlivněna především průmyslovou zónou, v jejíž blízkosti se nachází, naopak stanice Ostrava - Poruba je ovlivněna dopravní infrastrukturou.

Abstract:

Introduction: The Ostrava region has long been one of the most polluted areas in Central Europe, mainly due to pollution caused by fugitive dust (suspended particles of the PM10 and PM2,5 fractions). The aim of the study is to describe the relationship between PM10 and PM2,5 values and the season and to evaluate the dependence of PM10 and PM2,5 values on days of the week and time of day. The theoretical part deals with the characteristics of PM, its influence on health and the historical development of PM10 values in Ostrava. The practical part focuses on the analysis of PM10 and PM2,5 values for 2019 from two areas with different burdens. These are stations located in Radvanice and Poruba. Methodology: The data used for the evaluation for the practical part were provided by the Health Institute based in Ostrava and come from the stations Ostrava - Radvanice ZÚ and Ostrava - Poruba. The measurements were carried out from 1.1.2019 to 31.12.2019. The measuring station Ostrava - Poruba started continuous measurement of 24-hour values of PM2,5 only from 17.6.2019, therefore the values are given only from 18.6.2019, this absence of data was also reflected in the processing. The individual data (PM10, PM2,5 and PM2,5/PM10 ratio) for the year 2019 were processed by descriptive statistic. The dependence of PM10 and PM2,5 values was expressed by a linear regression line and Pearson correlation coefficient. Non-parametric Mann-Whitney test and Kruskal-Wallis test were used to compare the measured values between areas, by period and time periods. Results: In most cases, statistically significant differences in values between stations occurred during data processing. The highest average PM10 and PM2,5 values were found at the Ostrava - Radvanice station. Only PM10 fraction values were used in the evaluation depending on days of the week and time of day. The comparison of stations is not complete due to the absence of PM2,5 data at the Poruba station. Conclusion: The difference between the station sis mainly due to their location and type. The Ostrava - Radvanice ZÚ station is mainly influenced by the industrial zone in the vicinity of which it is located, whereas the Ostrava - Poruba station is influenced by the transport infrastructure.
