Professional Ageism: Ageism in Social Work

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá tématikou ageismu. Ageismus vede k tomu, že na určité věkové skupiny obyvatelstva je nazíráno skrze stereotypy, které nevychází z racionálního základu. Ageismus se týká všech věkových skupin, já se zaměřuji na jeho projevy vůči seniorům. V teoretické části se zabývám jeho vymezením, projevy a následky. Pozornost věnuji také sociální práci se seniory a tomu, jak se může ageismus dotýkat profesionálů. Na teoretickou část navazuje část výzkumná, jejímž cílem je zjistit, zda a jaké ageistické stereotypy zaujímají pracovníci Domova pro seniory Sluníčko vůči svým klientům, jak vnímají seniory a jak vidí jejich život. Data byla získaná pomocí pozorování a rozhovoru s pracovníky domova. Z výsledků vyplývá, že všichni pracovníci, kteří se výzkumu zúčastnili, zaujímají vůči seniorům určité ageistické stereotypy.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with issues ageism. Ageism leads to the fact that certain age groups of the population is viewed through the stereotypes, not based on rational basis. Ageism affects all age groups, I focus on his impact to seniors. In the theoretical part, we deal with the definition, symptoms and consequences. Attention is given also to the social work with seniors and how ageism can affect professionals. The theoretical part is followed by empirical part. Which aims to determine whether and how ageistic stereotypes staff of retirement home ?Sluníčko? occupy against their clients, their perception of seniors and how they see their lives. Data were obtained through observation and interviews with employees of home. The results show that all workers who participated in the research occupy some ageistic stereotypes against seniors.
