Comparison of Lufthansa and Ryanair airlines in the context of the European market

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá srovnáním leteckých společností Lufthansa a Ryanair v kontextu evropského trhu. Cílem práce je srovnat tyto společnosti z technického, uživatelského a ekonomického hlediska. Teoretická část nejprve zachycuje postavení letecké dopravy v rámci cestovního ruchu a vysvětluje důležité pojmy. Dále je stručně shrnuta historie letectví s důrazem na trendy ve vývoji za posledních třicet let. Představeny a následně charakterizovány jsou zde obě společnosti, Lufthansa i Ryanair. Práce se dále zabývá dopady koronavirové krize na letecký průmysl. V praktické části jsou nejprve společnosti srovnány z technického hlediska, následně je využit analyticko-hierarchický proces párového srovnávání pro vyhodnocení ukazatelů uživatelského hlediska a v ekonomické části srovnání byla provedena metoda finanční analýzy obou podniků za posledních pět let.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the comparison of Lufthansa and Ryanair airlines in the context of the European market. The aim of this thesis is to compare these companies from a technical, user, and economic point of view. The theoretical part first captures the position of air transport within the tourism industry and explains the essential terminology. Furthermore, the history of aviation is briefly summarized, emphasizing trends in development over the last thirty years. Both companies, Lufthansa and Ryanair, are introduced and subsequently characterized. The thesis also deals with the effects of the coronavirus crisis on the aviation industry. In the practical part, the companies were first compared from a technical point of view. For the evaluation of user indicators, the method of analytical-hierarchical process of pairwise comparison was applied. A financial analysis of both companies in the last five years was conducted in the economic part of the comparison.
