Eye Tracking in the Technical Education in Primary School

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá čtením technických obrazových návodů studenty oboru Učitelství pro 1. stupeň ZŠ za pomoci využití výzkumného nástroje eye trackingu, tedy metody pro sledování očních pohybů. Cílem této diplomové práce je zjistit, jak se jedinci dívají na obrazové návody a nalézt, jaké parametry mají vliv na délku fixace očních pohledů na danou úlohu z oblasti technického vzdělávání. V teoretické části práce jsou popsány dva velké tematické celky, a to je eye tracking a technické vzdělávání na 1. stupni základní školy. V praktické části práce byla získaná data podrobena kvalitativní i kvantitativní analýze. Kvalitativní analýza je založena na zjišťování konkrétní strategie při pozorování snímku a nalezení oblastí, které jsou pro jedince důležité pro vyřešení dané úlohy. V rámci kvantitativní analýzy byla získaná data zpracována pomocí statistického programu NCSS, stanovené hypotézy byly testovány pomocí t-testu a dalšími metodami statistické indukce. Veškeré výsledky jsou uvedeny a v rámci diskuze využity při porovnávání s obdobnými studiemi, články a závěrečnými pracemi. Celkové shrnutí a doporučení pro praxi je uvedeno v závěru.

Abstract:

The thesis deals with reading technical visual manuals by students of Teaching for Primary Schools. The research tool used in the thesis was eye tracking, i.e. a method used to monitor eye movements. The thesis objectives are to specify how individuals look at visual manuals and also to explore what parameters influence the length of eye fixation on a given task in technical education. The theoretical section of the thesis describes two major subjects: eye tracking and technical education at primary schools. The practical section of the thesis analyses the acquired data both in terms of quality and quantity. The qualitative analysis is based on specifying a particular strategy when looking at an image and finding those areas that are important for the individual to solve a given task. The quantitative analysis includes processing the data in NCSS statistical software. Hypotheses were tested by T-test and other methods of statistical induction. The discussion section of the thesis includes all findings and compares them with similar studies, articles and theses. The conclusion provides a summary of the thesis and practical recommendations.
