The opinion of primary school pupils on the difficulty of Czech ortograhpy

Abstract:

Cílem práce je zjistit, zda žáci 1. stupně základní školy vnímají český pravopis jako obtížný, popř. navrhnout změny vedoucí k jeho zjednodušení. Pro žáky pátého ročníku jsme sestavili dotazník. V něm jsme zjišťovali stanovisko nejen k obtížnosti vybraných jazykových jevů pomocí čtyřbodové stupnice, ale i k navrhovaným změnám. Dotazníkové šetření proběhlo na velké spádové škole i na malé soukromé. Celkem jsme získali přes šedesát vyplněných dotazníků. Důležitým závěrem šetření je zjištění postoje žáků k navrhovaným úpravám pravopisu, a to v kontextu jejich vnímání obtížnosti současného pravopisu.

Abstract:

The aim of this work is to find out whether the pupils of primary school perceive Czech orthography as difficult and to propose changes leading to its simplification. We prepared a questionnaire for pupils of the Year 5. In it, we examined the opinion of the pupils on the difficulty of selected orthography phenomena using a four-point scale and the pupils' opinion on the proposed modifications. The questionnaire survey was conducted at a large state school and at a small private school. In total, we received over sixty completed questionnaires. An important conclusion of the survey is finding out the attitude of pupils to the proposed orthography changes in the context of their perception of the difficulty of the current spelling.
