Role of Logistics in Global Sourcing

Abstract:

This Master thesis addresses issues of global sourcing and related logistics activities undertaken by companies in order to achieve better financial and operational outcomes. Based on a comprehensive theoretical analysis of the key issues, the paper carries out a rigorous investigation of Zara company with respect to its logistics and global sourcing activities. The aim of the thesis is to study how important logistics is for global sourcing activities and how the former impact the latter in quantitative terms. In order to reach the objective, horizontal and vertical analyses of key performance indicators with respect to logistics and global sourcing are conducted along with SWOT analyses for three chosen companies, operating in the fast fashion industry: H&M, Kohl’s and Zara. Corresponding quantitative and qualitative findings demonstrate that there is room for improvement in Zara’s sourcing and logistics activities, so that a set of practical recommendations is designed for the company’s management.
