Reflections on the 1950s in Czechoslovakia through the eyes of film-makers from the 1960s

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na vybrané československé filmové tvůrce z šedesátých let, a především na jejich díla, která reflektují padesátá léta. První část práce nastíní kulturní vývoj ČSR v 50. a 60. letech, a to s důrazem na proměny československé kinematografie a zároveň shrne specifika československé nové vlny. Hlavním cílem bude, na základě rozboru pěti filmů - Skřivánci na niti, Obžalovaný, Tri dcery, Smuteční slavnost a Žert, odpovědět na otázku, jakým způsobem a proč výše uvedení filmoví tvůrci prostřednictvím svých děl zachytili 50. léta. Vybrané filmy jsou rozmanité, jak co se týče žánru, charakteru postav, tak i prostředím, ve kterém se děj odehrává.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis focuses on chosen Czechoslovak filmmakers from the 1960s, and above all on their works that reflect the 1950s. In the first part of the work, he outlines the cultural development of Czechoslovakia in the 1950s and 1960s, with an emphasis on changes in Czechoslovak cinematography, and at the same time summarizes the specifics of the Czechoslovak new wave. The main goal will be to answer the question of how and why the above-mentioned filmmakers captured the 1950s through their works, based on the analysis of five films - Skylarks on a String, Accused, Three Daughters, Funeral Party and Joke. The selected films are diverse, both in terms of genre, the character of the characters, and the environment in which the story takes place.
