Living with the Psychosis: settling with and experiencing the Illnes in the Context of Life Stories

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou lidí s duševním onemocněním schizofrenního okruhu. Cílem práce je zachytit a popsat prožívání a chápání psychotického onemocnění v kontextu životního příběhu, přičemž naše pozornost byla věnována zejména psychologickým a sociálním činitelům, které pomáhají nebo naopak brání vyrovnávání se s nemocí. K tomuto cíli byla použito hledisko narativní analýzy. Výzkum byl realizován na vzorku sedmi lidí, z toho čtyř mužů a tří žen, ve věku 28–45 let, v jejichž životních příbězích byly z perspektivy kategoriálně-obsahové analýzy identifikovány relevantní oblasti. Kategorie obsahů získaných výpovědí byly porovnávány a interpretovány na úrovni jednotlivých příběhů, všechny rozhovory pak byly porovnány z hlediska kategorií které byly v příbězích identifikovány jako společné. Jako podstatné se ve výpovědích projevily rozdíly v oblastech vztahujících se k vlastnímu zdůvodnění onemocnění a jeho smysluplnému začlenění do životního příběhu, podpory blízkých osob, návratu do zaměstnání, službám psychosociální rehabilitace a svépomocných organizací, přijetí okolí, užívání medikace a zkušenostem z hospitalizací a s lékaři.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with problems of people suffering with schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. The aim of this thesis is to render and describe experiencing and understanding of psychotic disorders in the context of the life story while its mainly focused on psychological and social factors, which help or on the other hand obstruct dealing with the illness. During the research the narrative analyses was used. The research was realized on population of seven respondents (four men and three women), aged 28–45. Relevant topics were indentified with the help of categorical-content approach. Content categories were compared and interpreted at the individual level and furthermore at the complex level regarding acknowledged common categories. Differences in individual rationalisation of one´s own illness, its meaningful integration in life story, support of close social environment, general social acceptance, getting back to work, using medication, other psycho-social rehabilitation services and self-help groups were indentified as key topic.
