Decision-making of Roma 9th grade pupils of primary school about their further educational and professional career

Abstract:

Tato magisterská diplomová práce se zabývá procesem rozhodování o další vzdělávací a profesní dráze u romských žáků v průběhu 9. třídy na základní škole. Cílem práce je zjistit, jak probíhá samotné rozhodování, kdy žáci začínají řešit volbu své další vzdělávací dráhy, jaká kritéria při tomto rozhodování nejčastěji zvažují, kde získávají důležité informace a jak jim v tomto rozhodování pomáhají rodiče a učitelé či výchovní poradci ve škole. Práce je rozdělena na dvě části – teoretickou a empirickou. Teoretická část práce vymezuje základní pojmy týkající se volby další vzdělávací a profesní dráhy, specifik romského etnika, uspořádání rodin a jejich výchově. Empirická část práce zkoumá samotný proces rozhodování o dalším profesním směřování romského žáka z pohledu samotného žáka, jeho rodiče a výchovného poradce nebo sociálního pedagoga dle toho, s kým svoji volbu nejvíce řešil. V závěrečné části práce je poskytnuta analýza získaných dat a následné shrnutí.

Abstract:

This master thesis deals with decision-making processes of 9th grade Roma students about their further educational and professional career. The goal of the thesis is to describe such processes, examine the criteria and periods in which students start with such decisions, comment on available sources of important information and the influence of parents, teachers and educational consultants on the student’s decisions. The thesis is divided into two main parts – theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part defines basic concepts of the upcoming education and career selection, comments on the specifics of Roma ethnicity, their upbringing, and a family organization. The empirical part of the thesis examines the students’ decision-making processes concerning their upcoming education from a point of view of students themselves, their parents and educational or social consultants, based on with whom the students discussed such decisions the most. The final chapter of the thesis analyses all collected data and presents a conclusion.
