Practicing rounding, addition, and subtraction of decimal numbers through interactive game Snake and Ladders

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá desetinnými čísly a jejich procvičováním prostřednictvím hry s názvem Hadi a Žebříky. Konkrétně hra zahrnuje porovnávání, zaokrouhlování, sčítání, odčítání a grafické znázornění desetinných čísel. Cílem práce bylo vytvořit užitečnou a zábavnou pomůcku do matematiky a také zhodnotit, jaký vliv a přínos měla hra do výuky. Diplomová práce je rozdělena na dvě části. První část je část teoretická a zabývá se didaktickou stránkou desetinných čísel, diferenciací výuky, kterou hra podporuje a rozvíjí, a také konceptuálním a procedurálním přístupem žáků k desetinným číslům. Druhá část diplomové práce je část praktická. První polovina praktické části se zabývá intervencí, tedy začleněním žáků do výzkumného procesu, do kterého byli zapojeni jak před samotným výzkumem, tak i po něm. Průběh intervence obsahuje předvýzkumný pracovní list, ve kterém se vyskytovaly příklady různé náročnosti a na základě výsledků byly pak vytvořeny nové příklady, které byly vloženy do hry. Druhá polovina praktické části je část výzkumná, která obsahuje samotný výzkum, výsledky úspěchu dané hry, stanovené cíle a jejich naplnění.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis deals with decimal numbers and their practicing through a game called Snakes and Ladders. Specifically, the practicing of comparing, rounding, addition, subtraction, and graphical illustration of decimal numbers. The goal was to create a useful and entertaining game and evaluate the influence and contribution the game has in the lesson. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part is the theoretical part, which deals with the didactic side of a decimal number, differentiation of learning, which the game supports and develops, and students' conceptual and procedural approach to decimal numbers. The second part of the thesis is a practical one. The first half of the practical part deals with intervention. The intervention part contains worksheets with several exercises on different levels. The exercises in the game were created based on the results of the worksheets. The second half of the practical part is the research part. It contains the research itself, the results of the game’s success, set goals, and their fulfillment.
