Leading economic indicators

Abstract:

The goal of the master thesis is to construct composite leading indicators for V4 countries and to test the indicators via sensitivity analysis. The first chapter concentrates on evolution of composite indicator approach, the actual consideration of the indicators as a short-term prediction tools in V4 countries and review of non-model methods to construct the indicators. The second chapter describes method of the thesis. The method is applied on the V4 countries in the third chapter. In the same chapter, the results are tested in sensitivity analysis and the method is applied on the long time series of the US. Correlation analysis and filters are used and the results are processed in Matlab.

Abstract:

Cieľom diplomovej práce je zostrojiť kompozitné predstihové indikátory pre krajiny V4 a otestovať ich pomocou analýzy citlivosti. Prvá kapitola sa venuje vývoju skúmania kompozitných predstihových indikátorov, ich využitiu pre krátkodobú predikciu v krajinách V4 a rešerši nemodelových prístupov k ich zostrojeniu. Druhá kapitola opisuje metódu použitú v tejto práci. V tretej kapitole je metóda aplikovaná na krajiny V4. Výsledné kompozitné indikátory sú podrobené analýze citlivosti a metóda je otestovaná na dlhých časových radoch Spojených štátov. V práci sa využíva korelačná analýza a filtrovanie časových radov a výsledky sú spracované pomocou programu Matlab.
