The Media Image of Afghanistan Against the Relations with Russia, the USA and China

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je zaměřena na zkoumání zahraničního a domácího obrazu Afghánistánu po převzetí vlády Tálibánem. Cílem je zmapovat mediální obraz vybraných anglicky píšících médií, v jakém kontextu o Afghánistánu píší. Parciálním cílem je sledovat vývoj vztahů mezi mocnostmi a Afghánistánem. Oněmi mocnostmi jsou USA, Rusko a Čína. Úvod práce poskytuje stručné informace týkající se Afghánistánu včetně jeho moderní historie. Třetí kapitola se věnuje bilaterálním vztahům Afghánistánu s USA, Ruskem a Čínou. V poslední části se práce soustředí na analýzu čtyř vybraných médií a rozdílů mezi nimi. Konkrétně se jedná o zpravodajství China Daily, Khaama Press, Al Jazeera a The New York Times. Práce dochází k závěru, že hlavními tématy pro média jsou humanitární krize a pomoc, kroky nové vlády Tálibánu a teroristické útoky. Bilaterální vztahy Afghánistánu s mocnostmi jsou ovlivňovány obavami mocností z vyvolání možné nestability v regionu.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis is focused on research of foreign and domestic image of Afghanistan afterwards Taliban's takeover. The aim is to map media image of selected English-writing media, especially in what context they are writing about Afghanistan. The partial aim is to observe the development of relations between the powers and Afghanistan. Those powers are USA, Russia and China. At the beginning of my work it provides brief information related to Afghanistan including its modern history. The third chapter devotes to bilateral relations of Afghanistan and USA, Russia, China. In the last part, the work is devoted to analysis of four selected media and the differences between them. Specifically, News China Daily, Khaama Press, Al Jazeera and The New York Times. This part is processed by method of compiling articles from these media. The result assesses what the individual media are the most focused on, in the context of Afghanistan and what differs between them. The thesis concludes that the main topics for media are humanitarian crisis, help and steps of the new reign of Taliban and terrorists attacks. Bilateral relations of Afghanistan with powers are influenced by the power's concerns of possible instability in the region.
