Abstract:

Tato práce se zaměřuje na charakteristiku jednotlivých částí obecných kurzů angličtiny a zkoumá, jaké vlastnosti těchto jednotlivých částí obecných kurzů preferují sami studenti, tak aby kurzy obecné angličtiny odpovídali jejich požadavkům a představám. Teoretická část nejprve definuje 5 základních složek, které se musí brat v potaz, při tvorbě nového nebo úpravě stávajícího jazykového kurzu. Následně popisuje jejich jednotlivé stavební prvky a nabízí různé možnosti jejich provedení, jejichž výběr závisí na typu jazykového kurzu. Výzkumná čast této práce se zabývá preferencí vlastností těchto jednotlivých stavebních prvků studenty obecných kurzů angličtiny a je založena na dotaznících, které se soustřeďují na zkušenosti studentů s obecnými kurzy angličtiny. Práce je zakončena definicí ideálního obecného kurzu angličtiny v českém prostředí, z pohledu studentů.

Abstract:

This thesis concentrates on general English courses’ attributes which are mostly appreciated by students studying general English at language schools and thus suggests in what way general language courses could be altered to sustain continuation rates of students at such courses. The theoretical part firstly defines five basic components which should be considered when creating or altering any language program. Next, it describes the most commonly mentioned course components’ building blocks as found in the literature and offers variants of their further specification, whose final choice depends on the distinctive conditions of a particular language program. The desirable specifications of the individual course components’ building blocks requested for general English courses is the content of the practical part of the thesis which analyses questionnaires focusing on students’ experience with such courses and which concludes with a definition of an ideal general English course from the students’ point of view.
