The development of social status and the role of the midwife in society

Abstract:

Práce se zabývala vývojem sociálního statusu porodní asistentky a rolí porodní asistentky ve společnosti. Sociální status obecně je místo, které jedinec zaujímá ve společnosti, z čehož vyplývá fakt, že sociální status porodní asistentky značí umístění této profese v populaci (Campbell 2022). Porodní asistentka má sama o sobě hned několik rolí, ovšem obecně pečuje o ženy od narození po smrt. Cíl: Hlavním cílem práce bylo zjistit pohled žen ve společnosti na sociální status porodních asistentek. Typ studie: Kvantitativní průzkum Metodika: V metodice byl použit nestandardizovaný dotazník, který byl šířen online formou přes stránku Google formuláře. Průzkum byl pouze vyplněn ženami (N= 347). Ženy byly náhodně oslovené, přes sociální média. Dotazník měl celkem 25 otázek, z toho 23 uzavřených otázek a 2 otevřené. K vyhodnocení dat, byla použita analýza pomocí popisné statistiky a poté dále interpretována s užitím tabulek a grafů (programy MS Excel a MS Word). Sběr dat probíhal od 2.1. 2024 do 1.4. 2024. Výsledky: Výsledky hodnocení ukázaly, že většina respondentek je seznámena s tím, kdo je porodní asistentka. Ovšem výsledky také ukázaly, že náplň práce na zmíněné pozice není příliš objasněné téma. Pozitivní je, že ženy berou práci porodní asistentky jako důležitou a významnou. Závěr: Tato práce, pojednávala o vývoji profese, role a sociálního statusu porodní asistentky. Z dat vyplívá, že porodní asistentka má podle průzkumu vysokou míru sociálního statusu u žen. Avšak role a náplň profese porodní asistentky je pro ně více méně neznámá. Ženy porodní asistentky berou jako pomocníka v těch nejkrásnějších i nejkrušnějších chvílích jejich života. Práce porodních asistentek je minimálně pro respondentky důležitá.

Abstract:

Introduction: this thesis examined the development of the social status of midwives and the role of midwives in society. Social status in general is the place that an individual occupies in society, which implies that the social status of a midwife marks the position of the profession in the population (Campbell 2022). A midwife has several roles in itself; however, she generally cares for women from birth to death. Aim: The main aim of this study was to find out the perspective of women in the society on the social status of midwives. Type of study: Quantitative research Methodology: A non-standardized questionnaire was used in the methodology, which was disseminated online through a Google forms page. The survey was only to be completed by women (N= 347). Women were randomly approached, through social media. The questionnaire had a total of 25 questions of which 23 were closed questions and 2 were open questions. For data analysis, Microsoft excel, and Microsoft word operating system has been used. Data collection was conducted from January 2, 2024, to April 1, 2024. Results: the result of the evaluation showed that most of the respondents are familiar with who a midwife is. But we also found the fact that the society of women knows about midwives. However, the results and the fact that the job description for women is not that much clarified topic. The positive fact is that women take the job of midwife as important and significant. Conclusion: this thesis, discussed the evolution of the profession, role, and social status of midwives. The data shows that midwifery has a high level of social status for women according to the survey and. The role and scope of the midwifery profession is more or less known among women. Women take midwives as, a helper in the most beautiful and most difficult moments of their lives. The work of midwives is at least important to the respondents.
