Sebranice in the first half of the 18th century. The rural community and its culture

Abstract:

Předkládaná doktorská práce monograficky (re)konstruuje sebranickou komunitu a její kulturu v první polovině 18. století. Zpracovává klasické etnografické téma monografického zpřístupnění lokální – i když historické – kultury, které bylo v rámci soudobého vědeckého diskursu antikvováno. Na druhou stranu se však česká etnografie ani historiografie dostatečně s tématem historické kultury moravské či české vesnice nevyrovnaly a pro první polovinu 18. století se o to ani dostatečně nepokusily. V podtitulu práce se objevují dva základní pojmy, které udávají její rozměr – sebranická komunita a její kultura. Vymezení sebranické komunity ve smyslu soudobých obyvatel vesnice nedoprovázely potíže na rozdíl od vymezení jejich kultury. Vymezení kultury vychází z jejího sociálního rozměru. Kultura je zde pojímána jako systém kulturních prvků, který je obecně čitelný společenství svých nositelů. Kolektivní utváření kulturních významů v rámci Sebranicích, resp. sociokulturního systému Sebranic, předpokládá možnost zdejší sociální komunikace kultury – je nutné ptát se po sociálním prostoru Sebranických. Práce proto nejprve obrací svůj zájem na sebranickou komunitu. Ptá se po původu těchto vesničanů i s kým se stýkali. Analýzou archivních pramenů se dopracovává ke geografickému vymezení doložitelného sociálního prostoru sebranických obyvatel. Toto sociálně horizontální vymezení sociálního prostoru sebranických doplňuje vymezením sociálně vertikálním, zahrnujícím konkrétní doložitelné působení státu, vrchnosti, církve a vědy na obyvatele Sebranic aktuální pro vymezené časové období. Hranice takto vymezeného geografického rozměru sociálního světa Sebranic, adresné či v lokalitě přítomné kulturní produkty vertikálně orientovaného sociálního světa a politická struktura ukotvující Sebranické ve světě – vše s určením v první polovině 18. století – vymezují dobový kulturní svět Sebranic, relevantní kulturní prostor, který jedině a pouze může být uvažován při (re)konstrukci i interpretacích sociokulturního systému Sebranic v 1. polovině 18. století. Prameny pocházející z tohoto prostoru v dané době byly použity pro zpracování tématu předkládané práce. Vzhledem k ne příliš široké pramenné základně bylo ke každému pramenu přistupováno tak, aby byl vytěžen v co možná největší míře. Předkládaná práce tedy přistupuje ke zvolenému tématu pluralitně: na základě kvalitativních i kvantitativních analýz, ale také popisů. Každý z přístupů má své slabé stránky. Jejich kombinací však získáme plastičtější obraz, který by mohl nedostatky jednotlivých metod nahradit. Stránky práce tak zaplňuje sémantický, historicko-demografický, popisný i interpretativní přístup, aniž bych chtěl zatajovat strukturalistickou inspiraci. Také díky zmíněné metodické pluralitě se práce věnuje svému tématu od úrovně celé vesnice až po úroveň individua, což se projevilo v samotné struktuře předkládané práce. První kapitola Studium Sebranic v první polovině 18. století seznamuje čtenáře se všemi aspekty zpracování tématu. Nastiňuje použitou metodu a seznamuje s použitými prameny. Samotná (re)konstrukce obrazu komunity Sebranic v 1. polovině 18. století a její kultury se rozpadá do šesti kapitol. První čtyři poskytují statický pohled. Kapitola Sociální struktura se věnuje obyvatelům Sebranic, kteří představovaly heterogenní společenství. Nejširší prostor je vyhrazen sebranické obci a její struktuře. Dalšími tématy jsou politické ukotvení, správa a samospráva obce. Následně se zájem přesouvá na rodinu – její strukturu i rodinné právo. Následující kapitola sestupuje z úrovně celé vesnice. Abstract:

podsedku zahrnuje obytné i hospodářská stavení. Popisy vybavení těchto místností poskytují dílčí exkurzy do různých částí kultury. Důležitější součástí hospodářství představovaly polnosti. Čtenář se seznámí se zemědělskou výrobou ale také s vnímáním vlastnictví a držení zemědělské půdy. Lidé na podsedku se však nevěnovali pouze pěstování zemědělských plodin, a tak následují podkapitoly o chovu zvířat a produkcích másla, vlny, vosku a plátna na podsedku, ale také o přivýdělku rychtáře. Kapitolu uzavírá přehled celkového finančního příjmu podsedku i pokus o nastínění jednotlivých vydání. Samostatná kapitola se věnuje jiným stavením ve vesnici i okolí, stravě vesničanů a jejich oděvu. Následující kapitola se zabývá vírou, vědění a folklorem. Kapitola o víře popisuje institucí faráře a víru Sebranických, která je analyzována z několika perspektiv. Vědění ve vesnici institucionálně zastupoval rektor a poodkrývá ho analýza textů, které se v Sebranicích nacházely a četly. Poslední dvě kapitoly se pokouší zachytit kulturu v její dynamické podobě – tedy tak, jak reflektovala čas. Pátá kapitola zaměřuje svou pozornost na běh života člověka od jeho počátku po smrt. Poslední kapitola se věnuje Sebranicím v období od úmrtí Karla VI. po korunovaci Marie Terezie českou královnou a moravskou markraběnkou. Tedy událostem, které se odehrály v Sebranicích zhruba v letech 1740–1743. Kapitola je věnována nejen obvyklým událostem v Sebranicích, ale také doteku „velkých“ dějin na sebranické vesničany.

Abstract:

The presented doctoral thesis monographically (re)constructs the community of Sebranice and its culture in the first half of the 18th century. It deals with a classic ethnographic topic of a monographic presentation of a local – albeit historical – culture which has been preserved within the contemporary scientific discourse. On the other hand, neither Czech ethnography nor Czech historiography have sufficiently coped with the topic of the historical culture of the Moravian or Czech village; and have not even sufficiently attempted to do so forthe period of the first half of the 18th century. In the secondary title of the thesis two basic terms appear, which specify its dimensions – the community of Sebranice, and its culture. Defining the community of Sebranice as the contemporary inhabitants of the village presented no difficulty, as opposed to the definition of their culture. The definition of culture stems from the reality of its social dimensions. Culture is conceived as a system of cultural elements of general application to the members of the community in which it is present. The collective creation of cultural meanings in Sebranice, or, more precisely, of the socio-cultural system of Sebranice presupposes social communication of culture here – it seems necessary to inquire after this social space. Therefore the thesis first directs the attention tothe community of Sebranice. It inquires after the origin of the villagers, and after the people they associated with. By analyzing archive sources it completes the geographical delimitation of the social space of the inhabitants of Sebranice. This social-horizontal delimitation of the social space of the inhabitants of Sebranice is complemented by a social-vertical delimitation which includes concrete attested impacts of state, manorial nobility, the church and science on the inhabitants of Sebranice relevant for the given time period. The boundaries of the geographical dimensions of the social world of Sebranice delimited in this way, cultural products, specific or present at the location, of the vertically-oriented social world, and the political structure anchoring the inhabitants of Sebranice in the world – all dated to the first half of the 18th century – define the contemporary cultural world of Sebranice, the relevant cultural space, which, as the only one, is to be taken into consideration while (re)constructing and interpreting the sociocultural system of Sebranice in the first half of the 18th century The sources originating in this location were used for the work on the topic of the presented thesis. Owing to limited source basis, each source was approached in a way that would enable it to be exploited to the greatest extent possible. The presented work therefore approaches the chosen topic in a pluralistic way: on the basis of qualitative and quantitative analyses, and also descriptions. Each approach has its weaknesses. By combining them we nevertheless obtain a more plastic picture, which may compensate for the drawbacks of the individual methods. The pages of the thesis thus contain semantic, historical-demographical, descriptive, and interpretative approach, without my trying to conceal structuralist inspiration. Due to the topic, it was crucial to exploit the source basis to the full. This was enabled solely on the basis of the plurality of methods used in research; the plurality is not understood as a muddle of methods, but as a decidedly positive approach to the researched source material. Thank to the above mentioned plurality of methods, the thesis moves from the level of the whole village to the level of individuals, which is also reflected in the structure of the work. Abstract:

. The (re)construction of the picture of the community of Sebranice in the first half of the 18th century and of its culture is divided into six chapters. The first four offer a static view. The chapter Sociální struktura (Social Structure) is devoted to the inhabitants of Sebranice, who represented a heterogeneous community. Most space is dedicated to the main part – the municipality of Sebranice and its structure. Other topics include political background, administration and self-administration of the municipality. Subsequently, the attention transfers to family – its structure and family law. The following chapter descends from the village level. The examination of the Kanýz's small farm includes living quarters and farm buildings. The equipment of these rooms provides separate excursions into various parts of culture. A more important part of the farm was constituted by agricultural land, where the reader can get acquainted with agricultural production, and also with the perception of ownership and tenure. The people in the small farm did not devote their time solely to agricultural production. Therefore the following subchapters are concerned with the production of livestock and butter, wool, wax, and cloth, and also with the additional earnings of the reeve. It finishes with an overview of the total financial income of the small farm and with an attempt to outline individual expenses. A separate chapter deals with other buildings in the village, the diet of the villagers and their clothing. The following chapter is devoted to faith, knowledge and folklore. The chapter concerning faith describes the institution of the priest and the faith of the inhabitants of Sebranice, which is analyzed from various points of view. The knowledge in the village was institutionally represented by a rector and is partially disclosed by the analysis of the texts found and read in Sebranice. The last two chapters try to capture the culture in its dynamic form – i.e. in the way it reflected the time. The fifth chapter focuses the attention on the course of the life of a person from the beginning to the death.The last chapter is devoted to Sebranice in the period between the death of Charles VI and the coronation of Maria Theresa as the Queen of Bohemia and the Margravine of Moravia; that is to the events that happened in Sebranice approximately between the years 1740–1743. The chapter deals not only with the usual events in Sebranice, but also with the impact of "great" history on the villagers of Sebranice.
