The impact of John Lennon on Czech society

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis tries to describe, as the name highlights, the impact of John Lennon and the Beatles on the Czech society and music in the time of normalization. The first part describes the life of John Lennon as a solo artist, politician and philosopher as well as his contribution to the Beatles' success as a band and the follow-up phenomenon beatlemania. The second part then focuses on the political situation, the life and music in the then Czechoslovakia. The paper tries to look for the connection between music in the world, compares it with the one in Czechoslovakia and describes the beginnigs of Czech underground in the period of normalization. The last part of the paper describes the impact of John Lennon and the Beatles on individual music groups, personalities as well as on the society and the beginnings of the Lennon Wall.

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se snaží popsat, jak už značí název, vliv Johna Lennona a the Beatles na českou společnost a hudební scénu v době normalizace. První část práce popisuje život Johna Lennona jako sólového umělce, politika a filosofa ale i jeho působení s the Beatles a jeho přínos k úspěchu kapely a následné beatlemánii. Druhá část se pak zaměřuje na politické dění, život a hudební scénu v tehdejším Československu. Práce hledá spojitost mezi hudební scénou ve světě, porovnává ji s tou v Československu a popisuje začátek českého underground v době normalizace. V závěrečné části práce popisuje vliv Johna Lennona a the Beatles, jak na jednotlivé kapely, či osobnosti tak na společnost a vznik Lennonovy zdi v Praze.
